Lost my way

I just don't know which way to turn, I genuinely think I have been broken by the million diets I have been on over the last five years.

I used to hover between 9st and 9.7 and ate healthily mostly. I'd have cereal with skimmed milk for breakfast, salad or soup for dinner and a reasonable tea, spag Bol, quorn with pasta or something like that. I'd do WW to shift a few lbs when I found my weight creeping up, eating a lot of low fat products which I now know are crap.

Five years and one DC later, I am touching 11st and have no idea how to lose weight. I have tried WW, SW, 5:2, low carb, low fat, cal counting, real food, Paul McKenna, Slimpods, to name a few and think the conflicting advice is just confusing me. I hop from one to the other, lose a few lbs, binge, decide it's not working, start a different plan, repeat ad infinitum...

I so want to lose weight, but have no idea how to anymore. I have spent the last five days bingeing and now feel gross. But where do I go next? I wish I could just undo the years of dieting and get back to a pretty healthy way of eating but I don't know how to anymore.

Not sure what the point of this post is, I just need to get it all out somehow.

Sorry no advice here but I'm in exactly the same situation.

singaporeswing · 08/11/2013 06:37

Marking place also. Sorry that I can't help, but you've put into words exactly how I feel.

Used to be just under 10st, now pushing 12st and living in comfy clothes.

ChesterDrawers · 08/11/2013 06:39

Well it's nice to know I'm not alone at least Smile Hopefully someone will be along to offer us some guidance soon.

I'm similar.... Slimming world really did it for me

I revert to clean eating usually. And exercise! I run lots so can stay in control

BsshBossh · 08/11/2013 12:22

Chester you say you were slim and healthy once. I would reflect on exactly what and how much you ate back then, write it down in the form of a menu plan and simply follow it for a few weeks to see how you go.

singaporeswing · 08/11/2013 13:04

Combination of going onto the Pill and moving in with DP means I've piled on the weight.

I think I've forgotten how it feels to be comfortably full and don't feel satisfied until I've stuffed myself. I then feel ill and get massive guilt.

How do I retrain myself?!

lotsofcheese · 08/11/2013 17:40

I've lost the plot too Hmm

Pre-DC: gym bunny, did all the high impact classes, loads of exercise (cycling, walking, swimming).

Now 2st heavier after 2DC - exercise is poor, I graze/snack all day, often don't eat proper meals.

Am at my heaviest ever, have a double chin, have just had a clear-out of the (many) clothes I no longer fit.

Have had a few half-hearted attempts, but it always ends on failure after only a few lbs lost.?

ChesterDrawers · 08/11/2013 21:16

Well, there seems to be no real answers (apart from Bossh - thank you for that) but lots of us in the same boat. I would love to get back to pre-baby me (mindset not necessarily weight), and would love to support anyone who feels similar. I am, as per Bossh's advice, starting to think about what I used to do. Yesterday I signed up with a gym and today I didn't snack, even though my food choices were a bit Hmm. First gym session will be tomorrow and even though we've got lots on this weekend I will try my bestest not to binge. And from Monday I am going to try to channel my inner 30 (ish) year old!

Hi
I know you said that you have done " Paul McKenna" but all he shows you is how to eat like a " normal" slim person again. I do it and so do a lot of people. I've been doing it for about twenty years. I never gain weight. I buy all and any food I want but have re learnt how to eat only when I'm truly hungry and stop as soon as I am satisfied and that hunger feeling is gone. It takes time and practice to eat normally again but it gets you off diet treadmill and the to yoing and the belief that the next diet will work. Fits just lead to weight gain and bingeing.Smile

MillyRules · 09/11/2013 10:47

gets you off the yo yo diets which just lead to bingeing and self loathing. Smile

MillyRules · 09/11/2013 10:50

Paul McKenna didn't invent this of course, it's instinctive eating Luke you would have done before you ever did a diet. His book and hypnosis CDs are brilliant for relaxing you and working on your subconscious. There is a thread on here and we are all at various stages.

ChesterDrawers · 09/11/2013 20:35

I love PMc Milly, but find I never lose on it, the best I ever manage is to maintain. I know that's probably because I am not following the rules properly but I just cannot do it, despite the fact that I think it's such a good basis for a happy relationship with food.

I actually think his 'eat what you want' rule is largely to blame for the situation I find myself in at the minute, just have a massive problem with the 'stop when full' one!

OP posts:
MillyRules · 09/11/2013 22:47

I am maintaining Chester and that's a good place to be if you are eating what you want. Whats the alternative....another diet that works for a bit and then you binge and then you regain or gain even more.....
You can do it, honestly, it takes a good six months to get the hang of relearning how to eat like a slim person again. When you really concentrate and eat consciously and slowly and chew 20 times you can and do lose weight. Its when you stop doing it that you don't lose weight like any thing really. But maintaining is good and I eat whatever I want too. I am not going to diet ever again cause I don't want to be in the diet binge cycle in another 20 years. Smile

ChesterDrawers · 10/11/2013 07:34

Do you still listen to the cd Milly? I struggle to find time and then find that after a few days of not listening I start to slip into old habits. I did love it and was so much happier in myself when I wasn't constantly thinking about dieting. Maybe...

Gah, cannot beige I am seriously considering PMing again!

Panadbois · 10/11/2013 07:53

Can I join? I'm in the same place as you, start a different diet every week and loose heart. I even bought a SW magazine yesterday but by the end of the evening was finishing off a half bottle of wine and eating crisps - always putting it off and find an excuse not to start that day Hmm

Today is the day then. I'll het my Paul Mckenna cd out and eat SW meals. Yes I will. Yes I will!

ChesterDrawers · 11/11/2013 19:35

How you getting on Panda? You got much to lose? I am going to have a listen tonight.

OP posts:
MillyRules · 11/11/2013 19:51

Chester I listen to it most days as I find it sooooo relaxing and it keeps me on track. I still want to lose a stone so that's why I have started listening to it daily.

openseason · 12/11/2013 17:43

Mimilla203 · 19/11/2013 18:27

How nice is to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem...!!!
I Have been dieting since I was 19 and today I am 42. I know I have had enough time to learn my lesson regarding food, but I'm still trying very hard and loosing the

Plot every time. I'm desperate to lose some weight. And evey week I start a new diet thinking is going to be the last one. One week later and back to square one.... How sad is this...:(.
