6.5 stone off now face too thin

Redpriestandmozart · 07/11/2013 22:20

I lost 6.5 stone in a year and due to a disability there was no exercise involved and I am at a healthy weight now, normal BMI etc. Problem is my face is thin and I'd like to loose another 1/2 stone or more and because of the lack of exercise I haven't been toning up.

I just can't afford to loose any more off my face, hands or wrists :(

Any idea how to shift more weight without looking thinner & older :(

Make sure you're eating enough fat and that the foods you're eating are nutrient dense.

Redpriestandmozart · 08/11/2013 08:26

I don't eat a huge amount of fat although its a balanced healthy diet. skin and hair is healthy looking so I would assume fat intake was OK.

Are you sure your face looks too thin? What do trusted friends/family think. I've lost 5.5 stones (and still losing) but have lost the weight in nearly two years so I've been able to adjust to the fact that my face is thinner than ever but still okay.

Talkinpeace · 09/11/2013 16:24

drink lots of water and do face yoga exercises to improve the muscle tone

and who says you are too thin?

Redpriestandmozart · 09/11/2013 21:53

couple of people have said stop losing weigh your face is too thin! lm afraid to lose any more as its showing in face so much. what's face yoga?

the people who say you are too thin..... are they slimmer and fitter than you?
just that people are still fat often feel threatened by those who have succeeded

face yoga .... and lots similar ...

Wiifitmama · 09/11/2013 22:26

I had exactly this issue. I lost 110 pounds and felt I was at the right weight. But my face did get very thin and people starting commenting and saying I was getting anorexic which I really was not. A year later and I never get comments. I think it was the contrast from what my face used to be that prompted it mostly.

CointreauVersial · 09/11/2013 22:37

Can I ask how old you are?

Beyond a certain age, too much weight loss really does tip into "gaunt" territory. I'm mid-40s, and lost a stone last year, and it really was too much for me - it really showed in my face, and lots of people commented (and these weren't just the "jealous" ones who secretly wanted me to put the weight back on, but people whose opinion I value). I have quite a long, bony face anyway.

I've since put about half of the weight back on, and although I'd love to diet again, I have realised I really have to settle for a slight padding around the midriff in order to keep my cheeks plump!

As the French say, you have to choose between your face and your arse.

CointreauVersial · 09/11/2013 22:38

Forgot to say, well done on the weight loss!

Talkinpeace · 09/11/2013 22:39

Cointreau
sorry but that is just not true.
I'm 48 and am pretty light.
Staying well hydrated and maintaining muscle tone and a lean face means less wrinkles Wink

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 09/11/2013 22:43

Well done you :) How did you do it?

I think once you have been bigger - if you lose weight, it is a choice between face & body. You can't leave the fat deposits exactly where you'd like them to be and lose the rest - you just can't.

VerySmallSqueak · 09/11/2013 22:49

I think I agree with Talkin.

I would ignore the people who say your face is too thin - I think people say that sometimes just for something to say.

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin plumper and hydrated and if you think you would be healthier with a half stone off I would definitely go for it.

As Cointreau puts it (so eloquently Grin ),if choosing between face and arse I would rather lose the body fat as that can be unhealthy whereas a thinner face isn't.
In all the people I know who have lost weight,I think they all look better with a thinner face (even if it is a little more wrinkled). I don't equate a smooth plump face to beauty though.

VerySmallSqueak · 09/11/2013 22:52

I think also that in a society where so many are getting fatter,a lot of people forget what a healthy size body (and face) looks like.

Talkinpeace · 09/11/2013 22:53

cointreau
I lost the weight originally with WW (3 stone) and then ten years later the regained stone with 5:2 and have kept it off.
THe tone comes from yoga and swimming.

CointreauVersial · 09/11/2013 23:00

Hmm....I think my problem is my face is quite thin and bony anyway. No major wrinkles, but lost of cheekbone.

And I'm not sure how I keep my face "toned" (the rest of me is thanks to running).

Talkinpeace · 09/11/2013 23:04

cointreau
No major wrinkles, but lost of cheekbone.
ROTFLMAO
most of the rest of us would kill to have too much cheekbone!

VerySmallSqueak · 09/11/2013 23:05

I think as you get older a thinner face is good anyway - from the side only a person with a thinner face keeps a defined jawline for as long as possible.

CointreauVersial · 09/11/2013 23:27

Don't get me wrong - killer cheekbones were great in my youth but the sunken cheeks and prominent eye sockets post-weight-loss weren't quite so attractive.

Weight came off in weird places - I really struggled to shave my armpits because they were suddenly really sunken - who'd have though there was a little pad of fat there? Grin

Redpriestandmozart · 10/11/2013 15:30

Thanks for all your replies. I am 49 so no spring chicken and I've been putting the weight on over 10 years so fat for quite a while and I didn't look my age. With the weight off I do look my age, no mayor wrinkles but now I have cheekbones again so I suppose as they were lost for so long we're not really used to seeing them! I drink 2 litres of water a day, peppermint tea (4 mugs) no sodas.

Now thinking about this the two people who keep telling me how gaunt I look and I'm too thin are both failed dieters although nice people and don't think they mean harm. For health reasons I was advised to give up animal fat so adopted a plant based diet and the weight dropped off. I don't eat a huge amount and that is another thing, people moaning I eat too little but I do think we've all lost the ability to serve correct sized portions! I eat plenty of what I need it is a really balanced diet as I use an app to keep track of the nutrition.

Sorry so long winded. Thank you for the link to yoga going to look at it now :)

I have had the same thing, a couple of times when I have dipped under 8st people have said that my face is too thin. One friend once told me that it had aged me 10 years, not good. Have recently decided that it is probably better to have a bit more weight and a slightly bigger face, although obviously not too much weight if that makes sense.

SarahPercyAndBill · 11/11/2013 09:21

I have to say that one plus point (and probably the only one) is that you look younger/less wrinkles/your skin doesn't look as saggy as it really is.

Everyone's skin loses elasticity. It's only natural when you lose weight at an older age, you will appear older. Because that extra fat was giving you a false youthful plumpness in your face. Sadly, it doesn't look so youthful on any other bit of your body, lol.

bigTillyMint · 11/11/2013 09:26

CV, I thought that under-arm shaving thing was just me! I too have a long face and when I lose weight it doesn't suit. It also goes straight off my ribcage and makes my top half look even more scrawny whilst leaving my thunder thighs in-tact!

OP well done on losing all that weight! Have you tried a "gentle" activity like yoga to tone up the last bit rather than trying to lose more weight?

CinnamonPorridge · 11/11/2013 09:56

I think maybe you just have to get used to your new face? If you've been very overweight for 10 years, have your friends ever seen you slim?

I lost same amount and had people telling me not to lose any more as they were concerned I wouldn't stop. By that time I was actually stuffing myself with extra food because I was doing very hard physical labour for months.
I agree about the comments about portion sizes, my (very overweight) relatives always comment on my portion sizes, because they eat far too much. I eat what I need, and tell them to stop bullying me.

I have a picture of me 15 years ago on my mantel, it shows what my face looked like when I was 25. Add a few wrinkles and it's the same shape (again).
Well done for your weight loss Flowers

PS the only worry I had was that there would be virtually no boobs left, but thankfully it didn't happen, although I went from a 40dd to a 32b)
