i used to live on uncle bens express rice and spaghetti hoops mixed together as it was cheap quick and easy to eat at work very filling and not as gross as it sounds and free on green

SusiS · 10/07/2006 15:39

beef casserole:
1lb 5oz/595g extra lean stewing steak (also on red days i always take more )
4 sticks celery
2 onions
3 carrots
12oz/340g swede
2 garlic gloves
400g chopped toms
2 heaped tsp chicken bovril + 400ml hot water
1 tsp art. sweetener
1 bay leaf
2 tsp dried mixed herbs
salt/pepper

  1. preheat 220C/425F/Gas7 cut steak into chunks, slice celery, chop onions carrots swede, crush garlic. put all in casserole - season and cover tightly
  2. bake 1 hr, heat down 180C/350F/Gas 4 - stir and cook another 1.5 hours

serve with 8oz/227g jacket and free veggies

well, that's the proper recipe

i use more of each () and just put everything in the pressure cooker for 40min (just make sure it's enough of water)

todays lunch: mixed salad (cucumber, tomatoes, spring onion, apple), with a big potatoe and mixed with cott.cheese/from.frais/garlic

i do have to get my head around this success express! 1/3 and 2/3 - so: 2/3 of my plate is free food, right?! BUT do i mark my meal as green or original and can take 2/3 meat or 2/3 rice/pasta?? or is that part of the 1/3??

i told you i have to get my head around it

FN · 11/07/2006 12:42

Today had lunch of 2/3 superfree salad foods and 1/3 ham.

Susis 2/3 is superfree foods only 1/3 is either green (pasta/rice etc..) or red (meat, fish etc.) or a mix of both eg small jacket potato and tuna You don't mark it as either red or green its just success express.

Remember:

2/3 superfree foods (veg/salad etc. that are free on BOTH red and green plans)
1/3 of meat, pasta, rice, potato, fish (can be either or a mix of but ONLY 1/3 for these type of foods)

Hope this helps

I am going to have to start to meal plan to make my las few lbs come off. I have done great so far, but have taken the scenic route for the last 1 stone. I have about 10lbs to go to reach target. So I am going to look at this thread, and get organised (I go on holiday end of next week, so I want to get another 2lbs off by then).

So this week (weigh in tonight)

Sunday Veg casserole with natural yoghurt
Monday Weetabix and milk/salad and prawns and loads of fruit, leftover veg casserole and brown rice.
Tuesday Weetabix, salad and prawns and fruit, leftover brown rice and.....!!!

I am stuck there really. In my fridge I have quorn mince, quorn sausages, veggies, portobello mushrooms. I have all pastas, rice and some new potatoes, cottage cheese, eggs natural yoghurt etc.

I need something really quick for tonight as I will get in starving (or maybe should be ultra organised and do a bolognaise before I go to class)

HELP ME Green days only

FN · 11/07/2006 15:38

Crunchie why not try an omelette? Pasta with pasata or tomatoes with mushrooms, herbs and garlic?

mia84 · 11/07/2006 16:54

I love Batchelors pasta and sauce!! Just thought i'd share that with you! especially the wine and mushroom - and most of them are syn free on green.

Tonight im going to have leftover Quorn spagetti bolognese on toast ( without the spagetti ) Quorn Chilli on toast is even nicer!!!

I end up eating a packet of batchelors pasta and sauce EVERY lunchtime, as ive only got an hour and they are so quick!! i'm gona get fed up of them soon!
Think i'll cook the spicy bean bake tonight! What do you lot normally eat with it? i had it on its own last time!

OP posts:
karenj1980 · 13/07/2006 09:08

i normally have baked bean pie just by itself as it is so filling but if i do have a tiny corner on the plate left, i put a bit of salad on it.

its great now, i can just log in to see what day i am on now.

I have taken a pack of sweet chilli ryvitas for my heb and 98% fat free batchelor chicken noodles for lunch with some fruit.

mia84 · 13/07/2006 09:12

thanx karen. It's just that my boyf has to eat whatever i cook him, and i dont like cooking twice! but i could fill his plate up with salad!!

I'll try those ryvita thingies. are they nice? how many syns if not a HEB?

OP posts:
karenj1980 · 13/07/2006 19:00

mia - baked bean pie serves 4 huge portions for me! I use the biggest casserole dish that I have.

Ryvitas are 6 syns if not a heb.

SusiS · 13/07/2006 21:16

SusiS · 14/07/2006 19:09

had a very yummy lunch invented: zucchini in microwave for 2min (to soften it) - then a mix of: tuna, sweetcorn, salt, pepper, 2tsp creme fraiche, onion, cheese (optional) - half the zucchini and scoop the flesh out - fill it and in the oven for 10 min - yummy!!!!

dinner: homemade burgers!! we just love'em! with a slice of bread and lots of salad - and dp can eat as many as he can

FN · 15/07/2006 21:34

..RE: home made burgers our leader said she makes hers and puts a babybel in the middle adn seals the outer so that when cooked the babybel melts and when you cut/bite into them you have a lovely cheese burger.

Just had lovely tandoori chicken:-

small pot of very low fat natural yoghurt
half of lemon
tablespoon of tandoori spice
Mix the ingredients above in a bowl
Toss the chicken in the tandoorri mix and leave in the fridge for at least half an hour but the longer the better.

Once marinated put in the oven 180c for about 20-30 mins until cooked leave longer for a crisper version. Can also put foil tray on bbq and cook that way or on skewers for a tandoori kebab - Yummy

SusiS · 17/07/2006 12:31

just cooking some vegetable risotto! lots of it

SusiS · 18/07/2006 08:30

risotto was lovely (and filling )

for dinner we had a bean casserole (just chuck some beans in chillisauce, toms, onion, peppers, courgettes - i also added sweetcorn, carrots, more beans, and some spices) - with the rest of the rice = yummy!
easy and cheap from cans

cottage pie today - trying to get my veg in. fridge empty must go shopping x

FN · 25/07/2006 10:52

OK Beef burgers: looked online generally and I think this is how you make them (I adapted the recipe to be SW friendly):-

Use HEB mince or if on Red meal use as much as like and use the Babybel as your HEA (3 = HEA)

600g extra lean mince (makes 2 depending on how big you want them really)
Egg - beaten
2 shallots or 1 small onion (if you want onions)
Babybel x 4
Salt and Pepper to season

Frylight the onions until soft
season the mince with salt and pepper
mix the egg into the mince (helps to bind it together) and add the onions
Make 8 thin burger shapes
put a babybel in the centre of 4 of them and use the other 4 to cover the babybel and squeeze around the edges to seal it in
Cook your 4 cheese burgers by grill, frylight in fry pan, bbq however you please.
Eat in a bun, bread, salad whatever you please

You could adapt this recipe to include chilli if you like it or add any other herbs and spices you like or even add mushrooms to the mince for something different.

Enjoy
