I'm so bloody weak. I hate myself right now.

I've lost 8.5lb in six weeks. I've been doing weight watchers.

This week has gone to pot. I had a Chinese on Tuesday, went for a meal on Thursday and Friday, went to the cinema so ate chocolate and popcorn.

I am now shopping so I've eaten a Chinese from the food Hall.

How on earth do I stay motivated? It's not an issue of even being hungry, if I stick to the plan I'm not hungry.

I argue with myself over every meal and then just give in!

I'm never going to lose the 4stone I need to at this rate Sad

It's a bit if a self indulgent rant but I really do need help with my greed for fatty or sweet food.

Poor you. I'm sorry you've had such a bad week.

Like me (and I suspect many others) you are guilty of "all or nothing" thinking. You are either 100% on the diet (and congrats on your weight loss so far) or you are 100% off the diet.

The key to addressing it is to take the emotion out of food. Overeating is not a bad moral choice. Food is neither "good" or "bad" and our choices in relation to food do not affect our worth or value as human beings.

I am currently doing Lighter Life, which is great for me as it is removing any element of choice whilst I deal with my crooked thinking patterns. A great book is "Beyond Chocolate" - I would really recommend giving it a read. Losing weight is as much psychological as it is physical.

Good luck.

Losing 8lb in six weeks is fantastic. I've been losing about 1lb a week and I have the same issue as you, i'm either eating well and losing weight, or completely off track and pigging out. I find that if I eat something 'unhealthy' I completely give up on the rest of the day and stuff my face!

The best way to think of it, I guess, is to think well last week I enjoyed myself and didn't necessarily make the best food choices but tomorrow is another day and I will start eating healthily again. You won't have put back on all the weight you've already lost so your weight is still going in the right direction.

Thank you Smile

I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

It is definitely a case of all or nothing.

I will take a look at beyond chocolate. I could do with all the help I can get!!

You aren't 'weak' :( It is hard - it is harder still when you know there's a long way to go (I have more than you to lose!). At least with giving up smoking or drinking you can just say 'No' but eating to lose weight you constantly have to make decisions & you can't just say 'No' to all food.

I have tried all kinds of things, but find that low carbing works really well and it's nice food. Low carbing stopped me feeling hungry all the time and like I couldn't 'eat enough' or whatever.

Why not give it a go? You could read Briffa - Escape the diet trap or join BIWI's bootcamp threads. ^^ it is a good read, even if you don't want to try low carbing.

Low carbing is good when you eat out as there is still loads on the menu you can have that doesn't 'blow' your day.

Im an all or nothing person too. If I go off plan even slightly (one chocolate or crisp) I think fuck it, ive ruined it now and just keep eating. Im not even hungry! Luckily it doesn't happen often. Im ok with a planned day off for some reason. I can easily eat normally on a planned day. I hope that we all can control our relationship with food one day. I just want to be normal!

BellaVita · 26/10/2013 16:25

You have made a great start.

Just write this week off and get straight back on the wagon. We all have blips. Don't feel guilty about this week, that is the worse thing you can do.

libertychick · 26/10/2013 16:31

Agree with the other posters - it's a blip, that's all. I lost 3 stone with WW in my 20's and have kept it off but you have to accept that it will be up and down - my weight now fluctuates either way by about 7lbs at times and the key is to accept it will go up and down, accept you will have bad days but as long as you have more days of eating well than eating badly you will be ok.

And accept that it might take time - 1 lb a month seems terribly slow but over a year it's almost a stone and it sure beats putting on 1lb a month - hang in there, you are doing really well.

I'm in the same boat as you, I have 4 st to lose and have lost 9.5lb the last 4 weeks with ww.

Usually if I ate one thing "off plan" I would give up stuff my face and then feel like shit and give up only to start the merry go round again a few months later.

What I'm loving about ww though is the safety net of the weeklies. I'm trying to just use mine as a reserve just now as I have no social events planned till December (saddo) so am not needing to use them as much just now.

I find if I can just eat fruit for breakfast then maybe use 1/3 of my points at lunch it keeps me on track for the rest of the day as I can have a decent dinner/treat/glass of wine later. Then if my glass of wine turns into two I just take it of my weeklies.

I also but the really low point sweets at the meetings and deduct them from my weeklies right away (usually only about 4 points) then if I feel I'm about to slip I shove a few in my mouth to help me move past it.

I'm hoping with doing things a bit different this time I'm going to see it through Grin
