Basically as the title says...is Slim Fast any good? I need to kick start myself and was thinking of giving it a whirl. Will I be starving? I'm not that good at hungry!

yep it's shit.
you will be very hungry and irritable.
eat sensible and less, ecxercise more.

RobotHamster · 08/08/2013 22:57

Yes.

Beerocl0ck · 08/08/2013 22:59

I eat healthily, insofar as I can, ykwim, but sometimes if you want to have a flat tummy in a particular dress by a particular date, I 'get' the slimfast idea, except when I do it, I use sachets of porridge oats with 140 mls of skimmed milk. Four a day with carrot batons and celery sticks to snack on in between porridge sessions and blueberries as a treat for the porridge that is 'dinner'. I have lost weight quickly by doing that a few times. NObody could keep it up obviously but I think if you want to lose two pounds off your tummy in three days the idea works.

Bon courage with slim fast though. I honestly prefer porridge.

binger · 08/08/2013 23:00

Yes

SwedishEdith · 08/08/2013 23:04

It's first ingredient is sugar, according to programme tonight...

servingwench · 08/08/2013 23:06

Thank you, I will avoid! Why can't I just control myself?!! :-(

You'd be better off just eating smaller portions. Get in the habit of not eating everything on your plate. Have curry but don't eat all the sauce.

Beerocl0ck · 08/08/2013 23:15

Servingwench, give the porridge idea a go. I find that because it comes in sachets and you know exactly how many calories you're having with each serving, it gives the same disciplined structured KICKSTART that you refer to........... (it's also much cheaper). I see the porridge as a sort of slimfast -style regime when I do it.

I could do with doing it now tbh!! You've inspired me.

Also, two portions of frozen cod (from freezer section) with 3/4s a punnet of cherry tomatoes and a spoon of balsamic vinegar done in a bowl in the microwave is about 200 calories and that is so easy, you could make that as quickly as you could make a shake. That is SO easy and tastes like food.

servingwench · 08/08/2013 23:22

Beerocl0ck I may try it. I do have to be in the mood for porridge but do like Oats so Simple. I try and run and def run better post porridge...sounds like I may eat my own arm on Slim Fast!

A friend of mine is on the Cambridge and has lost 13 pounds in 13 days In the first week she lost 10 and in the second week she lost 3. Shes upset that she only lost 3 this week but i thought 3 was a damn good weight loss for a week.
Being on these liquid diets seems to skew peoples perceptions.

Beerocl0ck · 08/08/2013 23:42

wow, that's a great result!!

Is the Cambridge diet full of sugar too?! I have seen something in a local chemist called nupo (I thnk) but again, it was expensive.

Darkesteyes · 08/08/2013 23:44

Beer o clock JESUS

Beerocl0ck · 08/08/2013 23:48

what???? Hmm you alright there Daresteyes??

If somebody who is overweight enough to lose 13lbs in 13 days goes ahead and actually loses 13 lbs in 13 days, then that is a significant weight loss that might take them in to a healthy range. I don't think anybody who didn't NEED to lose the weight would lose it that quickly.

I don't know why you're 'head desking'. I suggested healthier alternatives to slimfast up the thread. But you're missing the OP's point when she said she wants the psychological leg up of an initial weight loss.

What is in the above link happened to me I lost 7 stone in 7 months and developed gallstones. (i lost ten stone in total with SW) i had my gall bladder out at 29. The surgeon told me it was due to losing the weight too quickly.

Beerocl0ck · 08/08/2013 23:57

You're being a bit one size fits all there with your head desking.

Gallstones aren't the only health risk.

Being overweight is in itself one of the risk factors associated with gallstones! A reduced calorie diet for three days is not going to give anybody gallstones but it might give them the psychological kickstart they need to motivate themselves to start resisting the sweet stuff in the long run.

Suggesting that a significantly reduced calorie intake is always a bad idea, no matter what the circumstances is really silly. It might be in your shoes.

ouryve · 08/08/2013 23:58

It's shit. You'll not sustain a lower weight unless you learn to eat properly for that weight.

Beerocl0ck · 08/08/2013 23:59

Wow. just read your post. 7 stone in 7 months?! that is extreme alright.

Darkesteyes · 09/08/2013 00:10

it was Looking back on it my consultant was supportive But where are these diet companies when you get ill Nowhere to be seen.
It was the SURGEON who told me that it was due to rapid weight loss An NHS qualified medical professional. Ten months of excruciating pain A and E hospital admissions. Doctors coming out in the middle of the night to give me morphine injections. Finally prescribed morphine pills for when ever i had an attack which i had to let melt under my tongue.
Im not posting to start a row ...honestly. I would HATE for anyone to go through this. I was SCREAMING with the pain. I wouldnt wish it on anyone.

Darkesteyes · 09/08/2013 00:11

When i say consultant i mean slimming world consultant.

edwardcullensotherwoman · 09/08/2013 00:21

I've been on slimfast for about 5 weeks now, I've lost half a stone. I also feel really good, more energy and definitely more awake! (that's probably a sign that my diet before was terrible though!) I've eaten sensibly on weekends and stuck with the slimfast during the week, this way I should (hopefully) manage to sustain the loss by eating sensibly when I reach my goal.

Darkesteyes · 09/08/2013 00:25

Thats good Edward Thats a healthy weightloss for that amount of time. Well done you.

Beerocl0ck · 09/08/2013 19:44

I'd be really happy to lose 4lbs. My body is quite stuck at this weight.

CaptainJamesTKirk · 09/08/2013 19:50

Catch 'the men who made us thin' on iplayer. I'm not sure you'll ever diet again.

I think the key is to aim to be healthy and not aim to lose weight. Eat less and exercise more, you will become healthier and start to lose weight too.
