Hi.
I'm breastfeeding and doing 5:2.
I know it's not strictly recommended but i had to find a way of reducing my intake without thinking too much.
I started on 9 april and have lost 16lb so far ( but after a gluttonous week, who knows whether that'schanged)
Baby is ebf and 4 months old.
Hth

Emilythornesbff · 09/06/2013 15:55

Oh, and obviously i always take my bf vitamins.
No apparent supply problems.

Pinebarrens · 09/06/2013 15:58

yes me! DS is 8mo i did WW at xmas & lost 9lbs I've kept it off but my willpower is so weak to lose the rest. im now running 3x a week to see if that will at least get a bit of shape back. Ideally id like to lose a stone...

I just need to stop eating so much!

Emilythornesbff · 09/06/2013 16:52

The thing I like about 5:2 is that I only need to exercise willpower twice a week.

mummy2under2 · 09/06/2013 16:52

Just the "vitamins for women" (D, C &folic acid) that they have at baby clinic.
It's the D that's important for bf isn't it.

I needed to lose that weight. Ate like a pig during both pregnancies. Just under a stone to go until target.
Exercise is very difficult. Child are issues of course.

I've been slowly but surely losing a lb a week although plateaued off for a few weeks but has now picked up again. I'm not doing anything too dramatic, it's mainly food which I've focused on.

Porridge made with oats and milk with fruit on for breakfast. A big bowl of this gets me through to lunch with no need for snacks.

One roll with few slices ham or chicken (cook my own ham from a joint and slice it as shop stuff tends to have water and salt etc in it) and huge pile of salad. Yoghurt.

Banana in pm if I'm flagging.

Then normal dinners, home cooked, trying to avoid lots of Poland salt, also avoiding stodgy (Yorkshires, loads of pastry, dumplings etc). Fruit for pudding.

I drink one mug of tea in the morning and squash for the rest of the day as the sugar in that seems to help keep blood sugar up without needing to snack.

I try and get out every day, walk a fair bit etc and do some tummy exercises when I can. Also take stairs two at a time and use bottom to push up the stairs iykwim! I try and eat with DD in the evening so that I'm done eating for the day by 6.30. I found once my body got used t not getting food later on it kicked into digesting by 7.30 and if I did eat while everything was churning away I felt a bit sicky and bloated.

I think the hardest bit for me has been resisting cravings ESP if DS is cluster feeding and I gt the munches, but once I was used to eating less i found I didn't actually want whatever I was craving. I've actually been opening a twice bar, sniffing it then chucking it in the bin!!

My biggest tip though? Throw the scales away and take the pressure off. I plateaued when I was weighing and stressing loads. Now that I've relaxed and stopped worrying its started coming off again because I feel more positive so crave less and have more energy.

nananaps · 10/06/2013 13:51

Hi, im trying too. Ive got 10.5LBS off so far with slimming world.

Just 1/2 to a Lb per week.

I have about 3.5 stone to get off after a mainly Cadbury based 9 month diet while pregnant.

Also taking multi vits and eating very healthily.

Are you thinking of joining a slimming club or are you going to try to do it yourself? Have you tried myfitnesspal website? Its really good & freeSmile

Beechview · 10/06/2013 14:16

I'm trying but am not very good at it!
Baby is 7 months so I've started weaning.
I've lost about a stone since she was born. I have 1.5 - 2 to go.

I try not to snack and I do lose weight when I stick to this.

Breakfast is usually an apple and porridge
Lunch is usually leftovers or anything quick (sandwich, beans on toast) and a yoghurt
Dinner is whatever I've cooked for the family. Today is cauliflower and veg curry with rice.

I go out for a walk most days and have started to do an exercise dvd about 3 times a week.

I find days when I get too little sleep really hard and end up snacking too much. I also find it easier to be out a lot as I tend to pick at home.

TooTabooToBoo · 10/06/2013 14:26

Signing in, just hoping this thread could perhaps kick me up the bum!

DS is 10 weeks, EBF. I had an ELCS and then a post-op infection so have only been back to full health since week 7/8 really.

Hardest days as those preceded by little sleep. I can eat ridiculous amounts of snacks. I have a DD aged 9 so keep biscuits, crisps and treats in for her - I have no willpower to not eat them.

I've been really good today though, after the school run I was going to eat a snack size Twix (well the Aldi equivalent!) and chose toast with a smidge of Nutella instead (thinking it will fill me longer than the chocolate bar)

I'm starting slowly with the aim of joining Slimming World.

I lost 14lb with DD after I had her 9 years ago - but she was older, it didn't happen early on so I am laying off being harsh on myself.

Oh and porridge and mixed, dried fruit (inc cranberies) is delish and fills me til lunch.

TooTabooToBoo · 10/06/2013 14:27

*she was older when I joined WW - not Slimming World dur!

Emilythornesbff · 10/06/2013 19:21

too you are so right about the sleep thing. I often find it hard not to snack.
Now I try to keep any snacking as healthy as poss, so just fruit.
But sometimes those cakes work their way in.

Artura · 10/06/2013 21:25

Hi, can I join you? Just tried to fit in a dress I'm thought I'd wear to a wedding reception. DP gave me a look of "I'm not sure what to say to her without her going mental.." but I could tell he thought it was a bit of a snug fit. Got a weird post-preg shape - massive boobs due to BFing, no waist, wobbly belly, flat arse and skinny legs. My weight is actually back to what it was pre-preg but def needs toning up. 5 months postnatal now and also have a toddler. No clothes suit me, haven't got a clue what to wear.

Was thinking of trying a DVD, anyone tried the 30 Day Shred?

Emilythornesbff · 11/06/2013 09:47

Ppl on the thread I use love shred. 30 mins a day.
I haven't tried it yet but it's v popular. I think you can access it via you tube.

Beechview · 11/06/2013 18:51

I loved the shred when I did it. I saw a huge difference after 2 weeks but I did get twinges in my knees.
I'm reluctant to do it again until I've lost some weight and my boobs have reduced (they are heavy and massive). There's lots of jumping around.
At the moment I prefer Davina. It has a section that she calls Pump. Its similar to the shred but more gentle. I haven't been doing it regularly enough to have noticed a difference yet.

Artura · 11/06/2013 23:22

Have ordered shred, and bought myself a sports bra. Bit nervous about just how hardcore it could be...Blush

aeff · 12/06/2013 04:44

Hmm Having all these issues myself! Fe so low about my image, can never seem to find any clothes because I think nothing will look good on me also EBF so need nursing/pull down tops.

Eat relatively healthy but just need to exercise, went for a run today and nearly threw up! Shock

Lets hope next run isn't as bad but would prefer more fun exercise but running is easy (in theory) and quick (albeit at a frumpingly embarrassing pace)

Vinividivino · 12/06/2013 19:40

Oh it's so hard isn't it?! Bf-ing means I am hungry all the time.
Artura- I've been doing a combo of Jillian's No More Trouble Zones and Banish Fat Boost Metabolism as many times a week as I can manage. (I can usually be found red faced and swearing in the lounge at night after babies are asleep) and I have found them really tough but definitely worth it. Have lost 16 kilos of the 21 I put on in hob nob baby fat. But getting these last ones off is really hard. My fitness pal is also a big help, although I find myself often justifying my missing daily target because I don't count calories burned from bf-ing. Does anyone try to estimate these? I read estimates of anything from 100-500 cals per day. Seems a huge range to me! Good luck everyone.

Artura · 14/06/2013 20:59

First attempt at the shred (me and dp leaping around the living room with dd's screaming at the top of their voices) this morning. Really enjoyed it and put me in a good mood. Going to have another go tomorrow, this time using my sturdy sports bra to try and contain my 34g's. Still having massive carb cravings due to the feeding though, is anyone having much success with low carb/low gi eating? Don't think I could give up bread or cake!

Beechview · 15/06/2013 10:10

I did my first shred in ages on Thurs night then promptly came down with a cold! I'm restarting on Monday.

I cant do low carb at the moment at all but low gi is fine. Porridge, lentils/pulses, brown rice and some new potatoes and wholegrain bread is ok on low gi. Those are the kinds of food I'm happy eating along with chicken and fish so it works really well for me.
If only I could get more organised to stick to it successfully Hmm

ImogensMumJess · 15/06/2013 10:31

I'm also trying to shift the donuts that I are when pregnant! Dd now 9.5 months and I've been doing weight watchers since Feb. have shifted 20.5lbs, so it's coming off slowly! I get extra points as am still BFing 3/4 x per day.
Have also massively cut carbs, we eat with her at 5.30ish and I snack on fruit in the eve. I do have weeks where nothing comes off as I lose motivation, but then I think of what's come off already and I try again. It's great being about to do up jeans from a few years ago. BUT my shape has massively changed post baby. And I guess exercise is the answer for that. I'm just not ready for that yet!!!
