Foods that are on your side for weight-loss

I find some foods are definitely pals when attempting to lose weight. My favourite is porridge or as I know it, oatmeal. It is so good for you and your heart and really fills me (and the kids) up. Almost every morning I make it, add a teaspoon of honey maybe some strawbs, blueberries or apple pieces plus a dairy alternative such as soy or rice milk. Yummm! Tastes sooooo good and sets me up for the day. Is also low cal. I don't have to feel like a piglet if I have two servings!

Protein and fat are on my side. Bread, pasta, cereal, potatoes all make me hungry.

3 eggs scrambled with cream and a handful of grated cheese for breakfast keeps me full til mid afternoon. If I have cereal or toast I'm ready to eat my own arm by 10.30!

Ivana I really believe in a major breakfast when trying to lose weight, much easier to cope when you've started the day well. Also more time to burn it off.

I'm also partial to a boiled egg (or 2).

I'm only just starting out (again) but I'm finding a good breakfast is key. I've been having poached egg and grilled bacon, or boiled eggs.

Then for lunch I've been having huge servings of salad with either lean protein or some crudités (tons) with Lightest Philadelphia for dipping.

My main goal is to eat better so I've been aiming for 6 portions of veg a day. Thai veg curry tonight.

Cheese!

I have given up meat; so I base a lot of my meals around cheese and it means I really enjoy my food, even if I would really like a bit more.

Cheese is so high in calories, unless you do the little sprinkle with the Parmesan on your salad stylie. (I do lurve cheese but I wouldn't call it a weight-loss pal). How are you using it?

I suppose it depends how much weight you have to lose too; I have tons, so I am aiming at about 1500-1700 cals a day.

If you are trying to lose the last few pounds and are trying to eat 1200 then cheese might not be so useful.

Saying that; cheese has no more calories than most meat, so if you miss out the meat you can have the cheese and cheese is nicer, also 100g of cheese at 300 cals goes a lot further 100g of lamb chops also 300cals.

Cottage cheese
Tuna
Crackers (as snack instead of crisps/biscuit)
Eggs

Tuna (as in tuna steaks which aren't cheap but are a lot lower in cals than salmon)
Lentils - fab protein low carb. Merchant Gourmet do ready cooked packets with flavours which are 100cals ish for 1/2 pack. And they're yummy!

Low fat protein (specifically seitan) with a massive helping of raw green veg.

Also, not a food, but trying to get in the habit of drinking a glass of water before meals/snacks.
