OMG went clothes shopping today...

DH took me clothes shopping today, no matter how hard I tried size 14, would just not fit.. One baggy skirt that was slightly too tight, looked like a sack and I couldn't sit down it in without the blood circulation in my waist being cut off.. Bit DH's head off as kindly pointed out that I'm not a stick insect... had a silent car journey home...

Since then the tears have been flowing...sorry if it sounds if I'm feeling sorry for myself, I would agree, which is why I am here posting... I want to turn things around... but where do I tart, at the moment feels like a mountain...

Hi hun, sending you big hugs!

I've been where you are, and I bet you most of the mums on here have too, at one point or another. First of all I would say be kind to yourself: Just over a size 14 is NOT big! (I know this might not help much though, this is what people said to me when I was a size 14/16 after DC 3, and I just kept thinking IT'S BLOODY BIG FOR ME! )

I also had a similar moment with DH when he tried to cheer me up by saying "You aren't fat, you're a lovely shape, likea pear".... Honestly, men!

Now, the only thing that will ever make you feel better is by changing your life, and believe me, you can! Start ttomorrow! It doesn't matter how, join weightwatchers, do lowcarbing, join the bootcamp thread on here... anything, but just do it! Take small steps, be kind to yourself, but don't give up! Make this day the turning point, because you will always look back and be grateful you did. Doesn't matter if you tried a million times before, you CAN do it this time round.

Good luck!

What a lovely post, thank you... Thanks... you have put a smile back on my face...

I know I'm not that big, but as you say IT IS BLOODY BIG FOR ME... Plus why do they put those mirrors in shop changing rooms where you can see the side and back view of yourself? They did not help to cheer me up yesterday!

Anyway, small steps, have joined WW Online last night.. Grin

Thanks again for such a lovely reply...

Maybe it was the style of clothes you were trying on that weren't any good? Could you go shopping by yourself or with friends for another try? I have pretty strong opinions about WW which I won't share here but I am a 14 and never find it hard to buy stuff. Do you exercise?

Well done, that's boody brilliant! So pleased for you :)

I know, changingrooms are cruel, cruel places, designed by men and/or size 6 models, I'm sure!!!

Personally, I've had very good experiences with WW in the past, I think they really make you aware of what you eat and help you consider your portion sizes, etc. I also really like their slogan "this time, loose weight for the last time" or something like that.

Personally, I'm finally at a stage where I am balancing my food intake with exercise and I've managed to maintain my weight pretty well now for about 6 months or so, but as I said, different things work well for different people and WW definitely taught me a lot about healthy eating habits so it was really helpful to me.

The only advice I would give is to stick with it, no matter what. My problem always was the slippery slope, I would have one biscuit and then think sod it, I've broken my diet now, might as well have 10 more, then continue feeding my face with everything I could get my hands on for the rest of that day, then get up the next day and think what's the point, I'm no good at this and start eating like a pig again... So now I would say, even if you falter or fall right off that horse and have a whole pack of biscuis, dust yourself off and get right back in the saddle, because in the end it's really, really worth it!

Be proud of yourself for having turned that horrible day yesterday into a positive one, where you've managed to take the first step towards a healthier, fitter, slimmer future. Good luck :)

At the best of times, I hate clothes shopping..

The thing is size 14, was too tight Sad.. only went to Next due to hatred of clothes shopping.. I tried on a couple of tops and they didn't look too bad, tried on a baggy skirt, looked like a sack, tried on a few dresses, couldn't them pull them down past my boobs Blush.. I am ashamed to admit, like a spoilt child, I put all of the clothes back Angry, bit my DH's head off, and stropped out of the shop crying Blush.and had the silent car journey home after the stick insect comment....

Maybe WW isn't the way to go, but I feel so ashamed of my childish behaviour, that got to try something positive

I have got 30 Day Shred DVD, why haven't I used it? Laziness

I've also found that my size 14s either don't fit, or don't look nice if I can still squeeze into them. I've had to get some 16s so that they fit appropriately. But it was a big-deep-breath moment when I bought them as I'd been so pleased to be in my 14s for a while.

A couple of years ago, I slimmed down from not fitting in my 16s to getting down to a size 13 (I LOVED Asdas in between sizes that year).

I'm determined, however, that I'm not buying any more clothes that size. Tomorrow I'm going shopping and buying no rubbish, and meal planning.
What works for me is meal planning and not snacking. I've done WW before and can't get back into it. I think my way will be myfitnesspal for tracking with my exercise bike on an evening to give me a boost on top of my Zumba class and walking for the school run. I have problems with my hip and find swimming tricky, and seriously need to strengthen my legs to hopefully the bike will help.

Good luck all.

PS Emmie - I find Next to be on the snug side. When I could get into a 14 in George, Dotty Ps and New Look, I still couldn't comfortably get a 14 on in Next.

Hi Emmie - so sorry you're upset - I've been through similar recently so you have all my sympathy. After having DD in Jan I thought the weight would fall off but at easter DP pointed out to me that I seemed to be getting even bigger! I was devastated, but it made me face up to the fact that I'm several stone more than I used to be, and getting back to how I was wasn't going to happen overnight, but it was best to make a start right now!

I'm not saying that the answer to everyone's problems is to lose weight, but if you feel that you are bigger than you were, and aren't happy/healthy then doing something about it is a really positive step.

I'm actually doing WW AND the 30 Day Shred funnily enough! Started WW just after easter and have lost 10lb so far. Not a massive amount, but it's a start and am still able to eat really well. The Shred is great for toning and because I do it first thing in the morning, it sets me up for the day.

As for clothes sizes, mirrors and changing rooms - I'm steering well clear until I've lost a little bit more weight!

Good luck, and please come and join our wibbly tummies thread if you would like daily support - lots of friendly advice about shreds, tummies, weight training etc Smile
