Eek -digestive consequences of lower carb - can anyone help?

I started a clean eating plan just over 2 weeks ago. First week went fine - ate lots of veg, omelettes, some pulses, plenty of meat and yoghurt. Drank lots of water, tea, coffee, herb teas. Diet in the second week was similar with fewer eggs. I've been exercising five days out of seven - either a class or a run. Towards the end of the second week started to feel ill. I thought to start with it was a stomach upset but it turned out to be constipation which has taken 3 consecutive nights of laxatives to shift (hallelujah!) with loads of uncomfortable cramps and stomach pain that's still there.

Has anyone got any experience or suggestions that might help? Would like to carry on if possible as the first week's weight loss was great and I was starting to feel quite energetic and focussed but obviously I can't carry on taking laxatives all the time and the swollen tummy and aches have been quite nasty.

Think it just takes your body a while to adjust to the new regime, once you're settled into it, as long as you eat plenty of veg etc, it should be fine. You could try taking something like Fybogel daily to keep things moving along in the meantime!

Agree with Doing that it often takes time for body to adjust.

Fibre affects people in different ways though. I'm sure I have seen something in the last few weeks that said fibre can worsen constipation in some. If you were not eating much fibre before then I would not increase the intake at this point. Something like Lactulose or eating some sugar free sweets may help if you think fibre is aggravating you
