Measuring weight loss by size rather than weight?

Does anyone do this? I don't own scales and wondered if it's possible, which does seem a silly question now I write it down...

I really want to fit into a dress I wore pre DC2 so I'm cutting down on portion sizes, not snacking and doing exercise and toning.

Will it work okay or is there anything I could do to improve my inch loss?

I am a total novice to weight loss, having been happy where I was before I fell pregnant.

You don't have to own a scale to lose weight, obviously, but if you won't be "measuring weight loss" then. Which is also fine.

Reducing portion size alone should work in the long run, as long as you stick with it. However, you will do much better and faster if you take care to cook with less fat, cut out desserts (except fruit), and exercise.

Exercising will not only use up calories but also will speed up your metabolism.
