Help!

Please, please can someone help/advise me? I'm a 30 years old, almost 15 stone and only five foot tall. My doctor is constantly on my case to lose weight but I just CAN'T seem to do it. I exercise by walking, occasional swimming, the odd jog and LOTS of bending and lifting whilst doing the housework. I've tried slimfast, I was doing it for twelve weeks and only lost half a stone. I've tried weight watchers and slimming world and it was the same story as the slim fast. I lose half a stone and then nothing else. I was even referred to the dietician at the hospital, such was my weight gain, still the same results as SW, Slimfast and WW. I'm strict with my calorie intake, I eat very very little junk, I prefer to fill up on fruits and veg but I'm still getting nowhere. I have cut sugar from my cuppas, haven't eaten a piece of chocolate in who knows how long and I just don't know what else to do. Five years ago, I was 10 stone and nothing about my exercise or calorie intake has changed since then.

In those five years, I have been put on a number of medications and I just seem to be piling the pounds on no matter what I do.

What do I do? How can I help myself? I am so miserable Sad

I'm not sure I can help but you sounded so desperate I didn't want you to go un answered.

What changed 5 years ago? Did you start eating more regularly? Did you change your job?

You could try the 5:2 fasting diet as it works differently to other diets so might suit you. But whatever you do don't expect super fast losses. If you are losing slowly then don't give up. You are still losing.

OneLittleLady · 10/03/2013 16:46

Sounds so easy to say but I can honestly honestly say nothing about my diet has changed. The only thing different to five years ago is all the medication Sad

What medications? Has your doctor done recents bloods like thyroid?

It sounds like your GP is incredibly unhelpful actually! Clearly there's an underlying issue if you're genuinely exercising and eating well. You could ask for a referral to a dietitian but I doubt that would help...I'd go back to your GP and spell out why you're struggling. If they don't help, see a different GP!

OneLittleLady · 10/03/2013 17:20

I'm currently taking :

Gabapentin 900mg 3 times daily
Quetiapine 25mg 2 times daily
Depixol 40mg by injection three weekly

I've been tested for both thyroid problems and diabetes on a regular basis and the tests come back clear.

I want it to be my fault, I want it to be that I overeat and don't exercise enough but I don't believe it is that. If it was that, then I'd be in control but I'm not. I know everyone says they don't eat much, it's a standard response to being told you're fat but I honestly don't eat much. I have very small portions, my only real vice is coffee but I use half fat milk and have no sugar.

Hey, I think it may be the depixol which can cause weight gain. But the benefits of remaining on it would outweigh any weight gain.

I would suggest tracking your calories on My fitness pal, sometimes calories can sneak in without us knowing. If you are eating under 1500 calories you should be loosing weight.

Are you hungry a lot?

OneLittleLady · 10/03/2013 18:42

I'm almost never hungry if I'm honest. I really can go for days without wanting to eat. I'm constantly thirsty though, really thirsty to be truthful.

All 3 of these meds cause increased appetite. Might be worth going back to your GP and ask if there is any alternative but I suspect this is a common adverse effect of this class of drugs. Might be worth trying to monitor your calorie intake for a while to see exactly how much you are eating.

OneLittleLady · 10/03/2013 20:14

I've asked for alternatives but the few I've been offered gave me awful, awful side effects so I have gone back to what I know works. I'm pretty resigned to the fact that I'll never be 10 stone again but I shouldn't be anywhere near as big as I am and I just don't know what to do about it Sad

I agree with Fairy - log every single item that passes your lips on Myfitnesspal for a month, and set yourself a target of 1000 cals per day.
I am 5'2" and was 13st 8lb on 1/1/13. I have lost just over a stone since then, and intend to lose at least one more.
It's surprising how the cals mount up without you noticing, and also surprising (to me anyway) how you can offset them with exercise. Sounds obvious, but MFP is brilliant.

My MFP NN is suedlotofem, if you want to be my friend. You can set the settings so I can see what you're eating, and vice versa, and we can leave each other comments.

OneLittleLady · 10/03/2013 20:49

I'm not sure how to add friends on the app but my NN is onelittlelady on there

I will try to find you!

OneLittleLady · 13/03/2013 14:44

I think you found me! Something must be working because according to my tape measure I have lost inches. The scales however are still weighing me the same as I was.

OP posts:
PhyllisDoris · 14/03/2013 13:16

Maybe your putting on muscle, and losing inches? Muscle weighs heavier than fat.
I would be happy to be smaller, even if I were heavier.

OneLittleLady · 14/03/2013 14:49

I hope it is that! I don't care so much if I weigh 300 pounds, I just don't want to be so.....big. I feel like an elephant Sad
