Swimming - weight loss question

MrsWood · 25/04/2006 22:07

Been going swimming 2-3 days per week for the past month or so - usually between 35-50 laps (25m pool) - and I have been following a calorie reduced diet (Weight Watchers).
Has anyone lost weight in a similar way - and how quickly? I know I lost some weight as I can now fit into Size 14 STRETCH jeans (used to wear Size 16) - but I need to fit comfortably into Size 14 (non stretch) by June / July if poss.

Anyone able to comment?

I'm not a professional so feel free to ignore me but swimming is a good cardio workout, as long as you keep the pace up, non impact (although I believe breast stroke can niggle a dodgy lower back). I don't see why you wouldn't be comfortably in a size 14 by June/July (14s might even be hanging off you by then, especially if you stick to the diet). However it might be an idea to think about varying your fitness schedule as it will prevent you getting bored and challenge different muscles. If you felt like doing this you could drop one of the swimming sessions for an aerobics class or a session in the gym.

Well done on the loss so far! Smile

MrsSpoon, the WW combined with the swimming should definitely get you into the size 14s, if not smaller, by the summer. You are swimming between 1/2 and 3/4 of a mile each time you go. That's brilliant and will tone you up as well as boost your metabolism so you lose weight more quickly. I lost about 1 1/2 stones by doing this a few years ago. Only wish I could find the energy to do it now. Grin

The thing is, I've read somewhere that swimmers really battle with body fat - due to being more hungry than people excercising by other methods. I love swimming and would hate to give it up, and although I might have gone over my 20 points value once or twice - I hope that if I continue I'd lose the extra weight. I really hope so! We were ttc for our 2nd but nothing is happening so I'm taking that time to try and tone up :)

I swim twice a week. I have lost 10lbs and 14.5 inches (waist, arms, thighs, bust, hips) in 6 weeks. I think it tones you up and is great exericse.

Eat banana for energy an hour before you go and take a low-fat cereal bar for after or something to avoid the hunger when you get out.

Definitely don't give it up!

KBear - yep, had never had massive urge to eat loads as I've been having Kellogs cereals for bk and then banana or a cereal bar in changing rooms so I get the chance to regain some energy, and for lunch, as usual, jacket potato with salad or chicken salad or something along those lines. It'd be crazy to not lose weight - I hope to see some big results soon! Just today I realised I can go a notch down my belt!!! YIPEEEE
I hope to be a yummy mummy when I finally get pg again :)

It's a great feeling and a good pay back for all the effort you put it. I had to put a safety pin in my work trousers yesterday and I was sooo pleased (although perhaps it wasn't the classy look I was going for!).

Good luck (and with ttc)!

Oh, that's fantastic! I bought some size 14 jeans and am trying them on regulary - I will fit into them by summer if that's the last thing I do!!! LOL
