Is there a way to lose from hips without losing from face?!

I'm not really overweight, but I'm a runner and the experts that I've read say I need to lose 10llbs to be my optimum running weight.

I am a bit chunky around the hips and thighs, so I can see that I am carrying some baggage as far as running is concerned. However, I'm 42 and don't think I can afford to lose anything from my face? Is it possible....at all?

I cant really help other than to say keep your face properly moisturised with a good quality product for ageing skins - I think night creams do this job the best - and then your skin is properly plumped out. I love the Decleor products that smell so wonderful too and they definitely have an effect that you can see when you look in the mirro in the morning!

Where do you find out your ideal running weight? Is it well below the average for the BMI targets?

Liposuction? That's about it, I think.

I think Rosemary Conley's Hip and Thigh Diet was just a marketing title there was no science behind it. Unfortunately there are no diets that successfully target specific areas of your body. Where you lose weight is down to your genetics just like some people are pear and tend to lay fat on hips and thighs and some are apples and tend to lay fat around their middle.

Spring - There's an article in this month's Runner's World . They say it's the body fat% which counts.

My BMI is 22, so about the middle of the normal range. My Body fat % is 26. Healthy range is considered to be 18-30% for women and the lower end for optimum running performance. Athletes will be lower than that - Paula Radcliffe maintains hers at around 12-13%

To achieve 20% I need to lose 10llbs, although that will make me lighter than I've been since I hit puberty!

There's a body fat calculator here which gives me exactly the same result as when it was measured using one of those fancy body composition scales!

I have done the Hip and Thigh diet in the past (have always carried my weight there) and found I did lose weight quickly without it being too painful to stick to and despite not having much to lose. Not convinced that it targets the hips more than other areas though.

Thanks Battlefront, just done it and I am 26% too! Not just for running but just for feeling good and healthy it seems a very good measure.

Hope you manage to do it without it changing your face. Smile
