Welcome to thread 11 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition.

Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we might have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!

So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry OH NO we're not!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2013 your year to drop a dress size or several.

You are very welcome veryberry Grin yes though I say it myself we ARE nice on here (i reckon we're the nicest thread on MN actually, but I don't know them all of course Grin)
Well done to your DP!! Mine needs this much more than I did but he puts his head in the sand and tries silly diets for at the most a week or two he tried the 5;2 for one day Grinand the weight just goes back on more !!

I'm not going to say you'll lose 3 stone in 9 weeks Shock it took me around a year to lose that much but you can get the idea and start on a lifetime of sensible eating consciously!

HadALittleFaithBaby · 27/04/2013 12:30

Hello very.
Welcome to the friendly fred! You may not lose all the weight immediately but you should find you can go on holiday and follow the rules and not gain that 'holiday weight' like dieters tend to!

ppeatfruit · 27/04/2013 12:37

But if a bit goes on it's dead easy to lose again by just resuming the 'rules' 'easy peasy'! So no calorie counting or horrible diet food or humiliating weigh ins oh or starvation, just good sense!

veryberrybug · 27/04/2013 13:19

hooray! thanks for the welcome! Thanks aye you're quite right i'll no be losing it all in 9 weeks, but i hope to feel more comfortable with my body by then. a smaller bulge would be lovely but think i'll still need the tummy control swimsuit! Smile i'm off for me lunch... ooh i fancy an egg. in it for the long haul, no more counting yey!! Grin

ppeatfruit · 27/04/2013 13:26

See the muffin top busting exercise upthread now THAT could help a lot with the bothersome bulge Grin very

veryberrybug · 27/04/2013 14:19

ooh yeh i'll be working on that muffin-buster thing, thanks pp. is it hard to watch your DP doing diets when you have gone past that? good point hada it'll no be such post-holiday blues if i've no to come back to humiliating weigh etc. just enjoying yummy french cheese & wine Wine (consciously heehee) ah what a relief DP made lunch & i didny have to say "awnaw i can only have 5 toast soldiers wiv my egg & just a wee scrape butter" mmmm real food mmm
p.s. many congratulations hada Smile

ppeatfruit · 27/04/2013 15:24

The weird thing is that apart from a day on Atkins I've never been on 'normal' diets (I've always been health conscious so hated the low fat, calorie counting thing). But it was only relatively recently (well we moved to Fr. we return for the DCs and work and the weight crept on Grin)

veryberrybug · 27/04/2013 18:19

ooh the freedom i love it - just been to a local mad hatters teaparty fundraiser thing with DCs, previously that would have been a guilty feeling standing staring longingly Blush buying some "to take home for the kids" & then guilty scoffing in private Sad but today i totally enjoyed an amazing mini-bread&butter-pudding thing with raspberries in (cracking home-baking) consciously, sociably, & was quite content when it was finished. bought a few cupcakes to take home but they're not calling to me because i could have them anytime if i really fancy them! but i don't just now because i've satisfied my cake-hole. what an improvement! sorry if i'm rambling about everything i eat, it's just nice to share...
is the muffin top exercise related to callanetics at all? how did you find it? & WTH is 5:2 diet? all i can think of is 5veg & 2fruit the aussie way of 5-a-day.

ppeatfruit · 27/04/2013 18:27

OOOh no The 5:2 diet is fast (well not fast but 6oo to 8oo cals) for 2 days and normal healthy eating for 5!
Well I'm into acupressure so I've got loads of stretches but I saw this on TV and as soon as I did it I felt it activate my belly muscles like nothing else I'd ever done so I knew it must be good! And by golly it is!! Glad you're feeling the freedom!

Rulesgirl · 28/04/2013 19:19

Hi veryberry . Yes its a lovely thread. I find them all helpful and supportive though I lurked for a long time. Don't even think of doing the 5.2 now will you, it just creates the diet binge cyle all over again cause you only have 500ish cals two days and then eat what you want the others . Thing is, from what people have said, they end up binging on the 5 days cause they have deprived themselves on the 2 days. All diets are crap. They make you feel bad. They make you feel you are to blame for not sticking to them. They make you feel that you cannot eat food and enjoy it. What I have learned with this way is that you can eat food and you can enjoy it and you can lose weight. Look at it long term. By Christmas with this woe you will weigh less and can look forward to treating yourself to a lovely sparkly new dress. Whats not to love. Grin
pp I have been doing the exercises and they are working.
Glad the bfeeding going well have.If you need any advise it would seem a few of us on here did a lot of bfeeding myself included. 7 years in total for me with my children but you do seem to have it sussed anyway. Its a lovely time with your new baby so enjoy it. It really really does go by very quickly.

ppeatfruit · 29/04/2013 10:42

That's good Rules. Grin Yes I LOVED BF with my 3. It gets your figure back fast too doesn't it?

Morning all !

ppeatfruit · 29/04/2013 10:47

The interesting thing about the 5:2 is that it's supposed to shrink your stomach so you don't eat so much on the other days. DUH why not just do Paul Mckenna and your stomach shrinks naturally but you can still effing eat when you're hungry?!!!

veryberrybug · 29/04/2013 16:30

oh jings the 5:2 sounds horrible! cheers rulesgirl for your concern, but no worries on me going down that path. when i was following curves diet i managed the 1200cals/day for 1st wk but only just cos i was choosing snacks like nuts which keep you going. never again! i hate diets now because i never used to have eating issues, but i also hate being fat

but i think PM may be helping to start undoing all the damage i've done because i can remember what it was like before i was 30 when i wasny on these meds & i was naturally thin. i'm 5'2" & though now i'm 11.5stone Sad i used to be ~8stone (& i was the biggest girl in my family, they're all wee teeny waifs!) but more importantly i've started to remember traits i had then & noticed them coming back - i can go for hours without thinking about food now! Smile if i'm not hungry i cany get appetised about food at all... both of which make me hope i'm going in the right direction.

but what i am struggling with is the difference between what i fancy & what i really want to eat. a bit of similarity with what BBB said upthread. when i was thin i would have chocolate in the cupboard & just not want it (except during PMT!) but now when i get hungry i could go for anything. if i've to choose between, i'd go for a sandwich over the choc cos it'll fill me up, but seeing as i'm allowed to have both... aaargh! i'm not sure if it's the appetite side effects of my meds still lingering or if it's just habit formed from eating so much crap over the last 7 years but i don't know how to deal with it: any ideas? i just know that as soon as i say i cany have it i want it, but i also don't want to look like a beached whale on holiday. aaaiiieee!!

veryberrybug · 29/04/2013 17:43

oh this is weird, i had a late & too large lunch (which i've been feeling rather guilty about) but now, hours have passed & i feel like i've no interest in food & can't imagine wanting to eat... ever again!! (well until i'm hungry i suppose Hmm )

but curses i need to feed the DDs. mac & cheese (their request) which i usually love , just sounds really stodgy & horrible. i may have a spartan cup of water instead! Wink

HadALittleFaithBaby · 29/04/2013 18:22

berry I did curves too! I loved the exercise part (til I got too ill to do it) but the 'weight management' was so tough. Two days into 1200 calories DH had to put me to bed at 8 with a blinding headache!

The eating what you fancy is a challenge. I try to make sure I have foods I might fancy. Right now it's encouraging fruit and veg for me but if I have too much I won't bother iykwim?! So I bought 3 bananas and am having one a day. Less overwhelming somehow. The water is a good plan whenever you're not sure what you fancy eating.

We went out for late lunch. I got to have a medium cooked steak! Oh how I've missed that! :) Faithlet was great - ate before we left and then after we ordered/were waiting and slept til 10 mins ago and is snacking now :)

tallulahmay · 29/04/2013 21:06

tip toes in Hi, can I join you please? Just started listening to the trance for a couple of days, usually fall asleep (or at least, I think I'm asleep?? I don't know? It's his growly voice....) but I feel calmer around food than I have done in years. Something's working!! Have been reading through this thread, and it's taken me a while but it's been very inspirational, so thank you Thanks

ppeatfruit · 30/04/2013 09:43

veryberry If you've eaten a meal and then you get that fake hunger quite soon afterwards then try the 'tapping' technique it works well for cravings . OTH if you've gone for over 2 hours since yr last meal then you ARE hungry EATGrin; following the eat slowly rules of course; I find that the chew 15 to 25 times rule works very well, if its a smoothie or soup then wait longer between mouthfuls than you used to !!

tallulah You're very welcome, no need to tiptoe round us Grin I'm pleased we've inspired you to start on the very best Way Of Eating that there is Grin.

ppeatfruit · 30/04/2013 09:47

Had A The drink water is a good idea esp. when you're BF. Grin veryberry I often have a cup of mint\green tea when I have the cravings and that helps too.

BigBoobiedBertha · 30/04/2013 10:25

Hi Ladies. Hope you are all OK. Nice to see some new people too. Smile

Faith - I am very impressed you managed to go out to lunch so soon and Faithlet slept. As a brand new mother I could barely sit down still after 2 weeks and the thought of going out to lunch and possibly having to feed DS in public left me like this -->Shock

It was my birthday 2 weeks after DS1 was born. Best I could manage that day was a brief stroll round the park, with lots of sitting on a bench and an ice cream. Grin

I take it you have been signed off by the midwife now? Time to start planning the next one then? WinkGrin

Solo · 30/04/2013 11:03
HadALittleFaithBaby · 30/04/2013 11:11

Thanks BBB! By the time we got home at 5 I was exhausted. Palmed her off on family while I had a nap! Gave me the energy for the feeding frenzy til 11.30pm though. The feeding in public is something I'm just trying to get used to. We have been discharged from the midwife but waiting to hear back from HV who I called due to a concerning lack of poo the last 6 days! Number 2?! Not for a while yet thanks!

Hello to tallulah, lovely to have you here! Glad you've found the thread inspirational. It really does work! I know what you mean about feeling calmer around food, it's liberating, isn't it?! :)

BigBoobiedBertha · 30/04/2013 11:46

Hey Solo, hope work is going OK and you are enjoying it ..... at least a little bit anyway.

Faith - it sounds like you are being well looked after - the only real downside of bf is that it is hard to hand over the baby if they want to feed but if she gives you the chance I am glad you are able to make the most of it and nap.

Solo · 30/04/2013 11:56

It's awful BBB it's like being a giant babysitter for so called 'grown men.' :( it's exhausting and I hardly see my children...

BigBoobiedBertha · 30/04/2013 12:05

Oh no, Solo! Sad

A bit of a double whammy then - crap job and no time with your children. You aren't in one of those prisons they were proposing to close a few months back are you?

I have to say I don't know how you would do it. I would probably end up behind bars too. I was watching a programme the other day on your line of work. You must have the patience of a saint, is all I can say, and I don't. I take my hat off to you for turning up every day.Smile

At least the weight is still coming off. Well done on that score. Smile

ppeatfruit · 30/04/2013 12:45

Hi Solo Sad about the job it must be one of the most difficult ones to do.

Hi BBB How are YOU getting on?
