Any tips for being 'sociable' on a low carb diet?

dh and I have been doing briffa/ipd woe for a few weeks now with great results.

However I'm finding it hard to manage social occasions such as going for coffee (have it with cream at home but don't like it black and cream not usually available). Cake is usually involved too and I feel awkward sitting there with nothing to eat.

Similarly tea and biscuits at toddler group etc.

Can manage restaurant meals ok as there's usually something on the menu but went to friends for dinner the other day and she'd cooked lasagne (ate smallish portion politely, said nothing)

I don't really want to admit/explain how we're eating just yet as can envisage awkwardness, questions and disapproval.

Any ideas?

I brought my own teabags, just politely refuse cake, say you're feeling a bit bloated, if you need an excuse.

I'm not so bad with black coffee but get were you a coming from.
I've found most coffee shops have either a small dark choc bar or packs of nuts(sometimes with fruit but you could give the fruit bit away to a small person). You could ask for some squirty cream?

I've just been trying to eat around things I'm not having.

Also I just say I'm either not having sugar/wheat/milk what ever it is that is on offer and blame it on my chin (have really bad pimples) this seams to work
