i've tried a number of diets/exercise plans but i never really stick to them and lack the willpower. i am now heavier than i have ever been in my life and have around 3 stone to lose Sad
i now need something to help keep me on track and think maybe an apetite suppressant may be the answer.
has anyone used one that helped if so which one?
TIA

I know you probably don't want to hear this but skimming pills etc ate really not the answer to losing weight. Not only do they not tackle the reasons (emotional or physiological) for your weight gain, they can have some nasty side effects. Plus, you can't use them forever, and once you come off them you'll put it all back on, with reinforcements! Changing your eating habits in the long term is really the only way to lose - there are no shortcuts.

What plans have you tried? Low calorie/low fat plans often leave you feeling very hungry and this makes them hard to stick to. Have you tried a low carb way of eating? Low carb is a natural and healthy appetite suppressant and can be very effective indeed withweightloss. There are lots of low carb threads here to get ideas and support - but even if you don't fancy that, please stay away from the diet pills!

slimming not skimming, obvs!

BonkeyMollocks · 20/08/2012 13:54

I'm with tea on this one.

They won't work long term and have some horrendous side effects.

You need to change the way you think about eating and food.

There is no easy option to losing weight, yes you may lose quickly and easily on pills, but then what? As soon as you stop taking them you will pile it all back on and then some because in your head you haven't got the pills to stop you.

Good old fashioned healthy food and exercise is the way to go for good permanent results!

i've tried slim fast, weight watchers and just "cutting down" doing more exercise and not only am i not shifting any weight but i'm constantly getting bigger Sad

i am an emotional eater and have been having a pretty shit time recently with marriage/finance and have 2 very young children who dont sleep well so i tend to turn to sugar when i'm feeling down or tired.

i know that diet pills arent good for me but if i could at least use them as a booster perhaps seeing results would motivate me to stay away from the chocolate then i can take steps to change eating and exercise habits when i'm feeling a bit better about myself.

Weightwatchers is a good way to start.
Gives you guidelines but you can still eat what you want.

Did you stick to it properly?
how long do you try the 'diets' before you admit defeat and seek comfort food?

Its not easy, but these 'diets' , healthy eating plans etc do work if you do them properly.

A good start is to not buy any crap when you do your shop. If its not in the house then its not so easy to rip open a packet.

You can do this, you need to think positive about it and before you know it you'll be on the way to losing you first stone :)

You don't sound very positive in your posts, chirp up and think to yourself 'Today will be the last day that I will ever be this weight' ! :)

BonkeyMollocks · 20/08/2012 14:04

Read this and then get yourself motivated!

i lasted less than a week on slim fast and was starving the whole time.
with WW i lasted 6 months but would have 1 or 2 weeks of rigidly following it and it working then i seemed to losse focus for a couple of weeks and put back on whatever i lost, in the end i stopped WW as i was skint and didn't see the point if i wasn't sticking to it.

'Today will be the last day that I will ever be this weight'
i love this quote and will be writing it on my diary/fridge/calender or whatever every day Grin

the motivation, control and consistency are where i always seem to struggle

How are you now money wise? Don't answer if to personal.

But we are on a tight budget here, start thinking of food as money. Chocolate,crisps,crap.....all money, all un-essential and bad for you. Save you pennies and treat yourself when you have lost some lbs!

Meal plan? I meal plan for the week, then everynight I put in the next days foods into mfp and stick to it! Its doing the trick at the moment.

If you need some support join us on the Motivational Monday thread. Its really helping me, I'm getting there slowly but surely.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 20/08/2012 14:53

money is extremely tight atm, part of what is getting me down, i know i have been very negative lately and am considering going to docs about it?!

i intend to start meal plans this week, (although i am waiting on a new oven coming and old one has broken down completely so a bit of a challenge)

what is mfp?

i'd love to join you on the thread, but always feel funny about joining an already established thread (like i'm butting in on someone elses conversation) will join anyway though and get over myself Grin thanks

Sometimes people mistake hunger for thirst so have a glass of water before reaching for the snacks. If you're still hungry half an hour later then it's true hunger.

I found 'kilo off' helped me with a kick start and adios max (and some not v sensible homemade diet pills) BUT I must tell you that I have anorexia so I dont know how much of the anorexia vs the pills it was.

My fitness pal.

We are always open to newbies :) and mention that i sent you, you will be my second recruitment Grin

BonkeyMollocks · 20/08/2012 14:58

Oh, and I was a newbie a few weeks ago, I have lost 9lbs since :)

sieglinde · 20/08/2012 14:58

I think lowcarb is often the answer for people who struggle with e.g. WW and SlimFast. It can be done on a modest budget. You can do Dukan or Atkins. Lots are also trying 5/2, where you need only be virtuous for two days. It wouldn't work for me, I think, but it does for some.

samhaircin · 20/08/2012 15:20

Hi, 2 supplements I have found useful (they are dietary supplements not diet pills but have helped me. I first heard of them via Patrick Holfords book. He is into low GI diet which is basically about avoiding sugar in the diet). I have found Chromium good for reducing sugar cravings. You should be able to get this somewhere like a health food shop. I also found HCA - Hydroxycitric acid (made from Garcinia cambogia fruit) good to reduce appetite. I am taking both of these in tablet form. I haven't gotten any side effects. They are not magic pills though and you will still need to eat less and eat sensibly to reduce weight but they might take the edge of a little bit.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 20/08/2012 15:25

i think DH is doing 5/2 is that where you eat normally for 5 days then "fast" eat less than 600 cals on the other 2 days?

i will start using mfp how do i add you?

OP posts:
BonkeyMollocks · 20/08/2012 15:28

Not sure about adding, I only use it for adding up cals and tracking weight, but theres lots of people on our thread that are 'friends' on there. :)
