Anyone else? Been low carbing with the occasional wobble for a while and have also tended to fast overnight say 8pm- 1pm or even 5pm next day 2-3 times a week, but am now in 1st week of trying the 5:2 diet. Anyone else?

Vnmum I have read a lot about that approach on Internet, as you say it's what a lot of body builders do. I just imagine how bloated my stomach would be after the carb binge though!

vnmum · 22/08/2012 21:40

I was more interested in the protein to fat ratio as it must work at that level to lean them down despite the carb binge. I know what you mean about the bloated stomach though, to get the amount of carbs they say for the binge you would end up resorting to eating crap which would more than likely contain alot of wheat. I also expect they workout alot.

spring you are right about knowing what works for your own body. I know that IF doesn't work for me if I do it for too long but it would probably work for a short period to break a plataeu or on a cycle of IF once a month or so

I have just started the 'alternative day diet' book so will be interested what it has to say.

Also, a very interesting article on IF [[http://fitness.mercola.com/sites/fitness/archive/2012/08/24/intermittent-fasting.aspx?e_cid=20120824_DNL_artNew_1

Hello all. I have been to hospital today for an ultrasound as I've had really bad abdominal pain, and it turns out I have gallstones! I'm only 32!!! :( I -stubbornly- valiantly followed Atkins from January 2008 to June 2012 (when I stopped due to getting pregnant) and the doctor is pretty sure that my low-carb high-fat diet is the reason. Just thought you should know, please be careful

moosemama · 24/08/2012 20:48

Excuse me poking my nose in head around the door. I am just about to start intermittent fasting myself, but not low carbing, as am veggie and find low carb too hard to stick to.

Suzysheep. I have had three gallstone attacks, each time within 6 months of giving birth. I was told by the gastro that pregnancy is a known cause of gallstones, gallstone attacks are actually pretty common postnatally and that he's 99.9% sure that's what caused mine. I didn't have any attacks at all between the one post ds2 (2004) and dd's birth in 2009 and haven't had another since July 2009. I am 42 now, but had my first attack when ds1 was born 10 years ago.

Useless doctors! Well I can stop blaming myself so much now! I wish this were more widely known, its horrible... I still don't think the scrambled eggs with cream and bacon fro breakfast really helped! Bloody lovely though :)

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 24/08/2012 21:05

I meant 2010. When I got pregnant. Oops!

moosemama · 24/08/2012 21:22

I was also told that most people have gallstones to some extent, but they only become a problem for certain individuals.

I know of three other mums locally who had gallstone attacks soon after giving birth, so that would seem to back up my doc. He also agreed with me when I refused surgery, as he felt my attacks were 'pregnancy related', so that reassured me as well. There's quite a bit about it online if you google. Eg Postpartum gallbladder issues and Does having a baby cause gallbladder problems?

Maybe the high fat diet did have some effect, but from what I was told it seems likely that some people are just predisposed, so don't be too hard on yourself.

BerylStreep · 25/08/2012 14:22

Briffa actually thinks that gallstones are caused by not enough fat in our diet. Will go and dig out the book and quote later.

quick question -

i'm going to do Mon and Wednesday as my fast days.

today is wednesday (my day 1) and am already looking for a short cut !!!!!

I last ate on Tuesday at 8pm -

do i restrict myself to 600 for 24 hours or do i go through the Full 24 hours of Wednesday on 600 calories?

thanks in advance
