Dieting whilst on meds

I wondered if anyone has experienced this. I have been on meds now for a good year - Rmipril 10mg (blood pressure), Amlodipine 5mg (Blood pressure), Fluoxetine 60mg (antidepressants) and lastly Elleste 2mg (hrt). My weight has gone up 3 stone, I get fluid retention too. I have tried so hard to watch what I eat, almost virtually given up on alcohol, tried moderate exercise (cannot seem to do much without getting really exhausted) and I am staying the same weight!!! I am constantly tired, no get up and go whatsoever and feeling so bloody miserable it is unbelievable. I go on holiday in 8 weeks time and I really wanted to go from my current size 18 at least back to a 14 and I cannot seem to do it. Has anyone found a way of losing weight whilst on meds?

Have you had your thyroid function checked recently? And are you calorie counting and weighing/measuring everything? Have you asked your GP/practice nurse for advice?

I'm on Ramipril (2.5mg) for elevated blood pressure and have a Mirena IUS. I do have to be very mindful of what I eat as I know I gain weight more easily than when I was younger.

That said, I have maintained a weight +/- 5lbs of the midpoint of healthy BMI for about 18 months by eating a healthy diet and exercising.

Thank you Itwillendinsmiles. I have just walked down the road to register at a surgery (being new to the area). The receptionist has made me an extra long appointment for Monday afternoon. I am hoping that maybe a new GP will try some other meds out? I too have a Mirena.

I am just fed up with no get up and go. Getting out of the house is a problem in itself as all I want to do is sleep.

Here's hoping Monday might bring some answers.

That's great to read! I hope you'll get some answers swiftly and support.

Sometimes it really isn't quite as simple as eating less and moving more.
