A natural low fat yoghurt that tastes delicious...does it exist?

Suggestions and top tips please! Am trying to shed the last half stone but am struggling. Trying to alter my palate away from sweet things (choooocolate.....) but is hard - and the natural yoghurts I have tried taste watery and sour. Can any one recommend so low fat (or even non fat) natural yoghurts that actually taste nice (and not just when made in to a sauce!)? Much appreciated.

I've never tried it, but isn't that what perl de lait (sp) claims to be?

I used to eat muller vitality fruity yoghurts, they were really nice.

I'm on the dukan diet and there are a few fat free yogs out there, but with added fruit the carbs content go up..are you bothered about the carbs and added sugar?

I eat fage 0% fat free Greek yogurt and add a spoonfull of sugar to sweeten it up as it tastes real yuk otherwise.

:)

I like the Total 0% fat one and the Lidl one is actually fine too. I do sweeten it slightly with a drizzle of honey or have a sweet fruit such as strawberries/raspberries/nectarines/mango with it.

idobelieveinfairies · 01/08/2012 20:13

I don't actually add a spoonful of sugar at all!!!!

I add a spponful of splenda! ;)

LadyFerretAndLordCoe · 01/08/2012 20:14

Total 0% Greek yoghurt is lovely with fresh berries and isn't sour.

Perl de lait - had forgotten about that advert. Could give it a go. Idobelieve - no bothered about the carbs but am about the added sugar. And the need to add a spoonful of sugar to stop it tasting yuk is exactly what I mean - glad not the only one! I think the Muller fruit ones all have added sugar. Sigh. Surely it must be possible..

Fat free Greek yoghurt with a teaspoon of agave nectar is lovely.

idobelieveinfairies · 01/08/2012 20:20

Remember to look at the ingredients then, anything like fructose etc is added sugar.

try adding splenda. And have a look at the dukan diet too.....I have lost just over 1 stone in 2 weeks!! :)

Ohhh, 2 votes for Total 0% greek. SOunds positive. Thanks for the ideas. Adding fresh berries is good. Am allowing myself things that are naturally sweet - fruit - but trying to cut out (or at least cut back on) the added sugars. I just hadn't realised how many seemingly innocent things have so much added sugar - even lots of the 'healthy' cereals...

I would argue you should eat full fat with no sugar. IMO it is a healthier option.

QueenStromba · 01/08/2012 22:32

I'm another proponent of the full fat stuff - Total is great as is the stuff you get in Lidl. The full fat stuff is so much more filling than the 0% so you end up eating a lot less and feeling full for much longer which means you end up eating a lot less of the natural sugar you get in yoghurt. Your body cannot tell natural sugar from added sugar and by the time it hits your bloodstream, starch is the exact same as if you'd eaten the same weight of glucose. Come join us on the low carb thread for cutting down slowly - you won't have to cut out all carby stuff straight away, just do it at a pace you feel happy with.
