Slim fast?! I'm desperate!

I am eating pretty healthily (wine aside!) and go to the gym twice a week and Zumba once a week as well as toddler wrangling but I'm putting on weight. I go on a beach holiday for the first time in 10 years in less than three weeks and I really hate my belly :(

I need something easy and quick! Does anyone still do slim fast? Is it worth a go?

I'll also dig out my shred DVD as I'm not able to go to the gym as much in the school holidays.

Thanks :)

It's as easy to stick to dropping the booze and upping the veg/lean protein as to force down sweetener laden crap twice a day, surely?

I really think Slim Fast is a waste of money, and no more useful as a diet aid than drinking a couple of smoothies instead of meals.

Drop the wine!

Slim fast is a complete con. Yes you may lose weight but as soon as you stop you will binge and it will all pile on again in no time!

Costs a small fortune as well!

what are you eating a day on average?

Sl1nkyMalinki · 27/07/2012 18:07

It's the thought of losing the wine in the school hols GrinBlush

I was hoping for a quick fix but I know in my sensible brain half that it's not that easy.

My main problem is mid afternoon. For breakfast I have porridge with dried fruit and/or nuts and seeds and a decaf tea (skimmed milk, one sugar). Lunch is soup and a couple of ryvita with either low fat pate or Philly light, juice and then a bit of cake (I bake a lot so at least it's homemade Wink), and dinner can be anything really but generally veggie, and that damn glass or so of wine.

See not too bad! BUT snacks....mid afternoon I can't stop myself and then I always make too much for the kids and eat their leftovers and generally have something else before putting them to bed. I seem to have lost my willpower after DS was born.

I need a substantial enough snack in the afternoon to get from an early lunch with the toddler to dinner at about 8pm!

Ditch the cake and wine. I know its a bummer but for three weeks you can do it!
Three meals a day! Or snack on veg or something like a boiled egg if you feel you really need to!

Drench the kids leftovers with salt, throw them in the bin and don't eat them!

Can you eat dinner earlier?

Sl1nkyMalinki · 27/07/2012 18:52

Thanks bonkey! I'm pretty sure a glass of wine a day is bad news in general so yes, I should sort that out Blush I can avoid cake, I try and make something sticky so it's too hard to wolf down before the kids see but sadly I made brownies this week!

Eating earlier would be better but not possible with dh's hours and it's really the nicest time we get to spend together to chat :)

Thanks for your help! I feel you're holding back on the "grow a pair and stop snacking"!

Hadn't thought of boiled egg as a snack, that's brilliant!

Do you want me to say it?

Will it help? Grin

linzmac7 · 27/07/2012 19:26

Could you not just have a more substantial lunch? Protein and a big pile of veggies/salad with a bit of butter or olive oil? That would be much more filling and satisfying than what you are currently having and much better for you than cake etc.

Sl1nkyMalinki · 27/07/2012 20:08

Grinbonkey

Linz, yes it would, it's the time involved to sort something like that. That's why I thought making a big batch of chicken and veg soup would work but I think I need something better to go with it that isn't bread (bread = bloat). I've got super lazy recently due to DS (2) being fussy and difficult at mealtimes. He's getting better so maybe this isn't such a good excuse anymore.

What fruits are good for a sugar fix? I get bored of bananas.

OP posts:
hazchem · 28/07/2012 09:03

Ditch the bananas too! I'm about 2 weeks into a reduction of fruit in my diet. I feel so much better. I'm now just having 1 fresh fruit a day with my breakfast. (Weirdly it's on the advice of my dentist to cut back fruit much better on my teeth and my skin is improving too)

Do try upping your protein I'm trying to have 2 types of protein in my lunch and dinner. So Tuna, boiled egg, green bean salad for lunch.

Maybe think about toddler dinner time as snack time. So aim to have a substantial "snack" at toddler dinner time.

I think plain yogurt is a great snack.

I'm dishing out this advice cause I know how freaking hard it is too lose weight.

anniewoo · 28/07/2012 09:07

How many eggs is it ok to eat per day?

akaemmafrost · 28/07/2012 09:10

Wine is the killer.

I don't drink often but when I do I really notice how bloated and rough I feel for at least two or three days afterwards. If you are having a couple of glasses every day that bloat is never really going away is it?

In three weeks on a low cal, high protein diet with no alcohol and exercise every day if you can you will really see a difference and feel more confident.

Whippoorwhill · 28/07/2012 10:03

Annie, you can eat as many eggs per day as you want. It's one of the many things that turned out not to be bad for you after all.

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 28/07/2012 10:08

Drop the wine and ditch the snacks.

Get a load of fruit to snack on instead.

Stomach crunches and running-maybe an extra Zumba class or two a week, just until your hols.

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 28/07/2012 10:11

Sweet fruits like prunes, dried apricots, grapes, apples, satsumas.

And get some plain nuts and raisens to snack on to. And make some plain popcorn.

I read once " if you're not hungry enough to eat an apple, you're not really hungry". A dr said this in a column I was reading. I don't keep to it generally but when I'm trying to lose weight I stick to it.
