hey, i found that when i was losing weight walking everyday for an hour really helped. i cut out all the bad stuff and my daily food went something like this... breakfast, bowl of special k or crunchy nut cornflakes with skimmed milk and a banana. lunch, 2 rice cakes with philly cheese and wafer thin ham (load it on by the way), packet of skips or wotsits (those puffy crisps contain much less calories) afternoon i always felt hungry so i'd have an options choc drink or some canned fruit. dinner was usually something like 1 chicken kiev and salad, 3 sausages and mash, half a pizza and salad, jacket potato and salad. for dessert i'd have fruit and sugarfree jelly that i made earlier. every saturday dinner i'd have whatever i wanted good or bad so you dont go mad from not eating bad foods. like a treat. i found that counting calories rather than watching the fat content was the key for me. if i had a really good day calorie wise then i would treat myself to something more at dinner or have a cornetto for dessert. i dont like tea or coffee so i drank sugarfree fizzy or squash but if you do just make sure you have skimmed milk and sweetener. hope any of this helps, sorry its so long, good luck x

Can I ask what the health problems are? I went from borderline prediabetic to having perfect blood sugar and from having a blood pressure of about 145/100 to about 115/60 in just a couple of months on a low carb diet. I know the concept sounds a bit scary but you don't have to just ditch all of the carbs at once, there's a thread here for people who are cutting down gradually or don't want to have a load of rules to follow.

PCOS symptoms are normally vastly improved on a low carb diet too - in fact it's one of a whole host of problems which fall under the banner of "syndrome x" which is linked in with too much carbohydrate in the diet. I've got asthma too and I found that it greatly improved when I went low carb which I attribute to cutting wheat out of my diet - nobody ever tells you this but the vast majority of people with immune related diseases like athsma, allergies and arthritis feel an awful lot better if they just stop eating wheat.

Elainey, there's a lot of useful info on syndrome X and diabetes on American websites (google and lots of sites will come up), read a few, you'll learn lots of useful stuff about halting the progress of the condition (and even reversing early diabetes).
I had gestational diabetes (borderline) during one pregnancy, but not in subsequent pregnancies, due to dietary changes. If you decide NOT to low-carb diet, I strongly recommend that you at least ditch high GI carbs (rice, potato, sugar, wheat, bread, cakes) and switch to lower GI carbs (small new potatoes, wild rice (or brown rice), rye...... and not too much of them!), it will make a huge difference to your health.
Good luck!
