Can someone recommend me an exercise DVD that won't hurt my knees please?

I love 30 Day Shred but it wrecks my knees :(. I've tried everything - modifying the high impact parts of it, wearing supports on my knees etc etc but they just can't hack it.

So, I'm looking for something equally tough on the rest of my body but much, much gentler on my poor old knees - any recommendations? If it helps, it's mainly my abs and thighs that I need to work on.

I've found exactly the same problem as you so am also eagerly waiting for someone to turn up with a recommendation.

I stopped shredding quite a while ago but still have to be careful with my knees doing any exercise or I'll get horrible twinges of pain.

Oh the shred is killing my knees too Sad

I'm doing it every other day now instead of daily but why does it hurt them so much?

What about davina?

happyhorse · 16/07/2012 19:12

I don't know what it is with the shred and knees.

I tried Davina but she is so annoying, always gurning at the camera and making out that she's struggling when she clearly isn't, that I just couldn't stand it.

I've been sticking to toning recently with a couple of the 10 Minute Solutions dvds because of my old lady knees - but it would be nice to burn a bit of fat without crippling myself.

YYYes the Shred started to do my knees in too! I did try it without some of the moves, but then felt it was a bit half-hearted, so stopped altogetherGrin

My knees are fine when I power-walk or run (not that I run that much!), it must just be some of the moves.

Are you wearing quality trainers? If you do have an issue with your kness then its worth having a trip to a physo or good trainer who can check its not a serious problem. My husband has bad knees but was told not to rest them but to keep movement. Specialist tapes that are thick and placed in the correct place as worth it.

If there is a weakness then worth going to a running shop and getting trainers to suit plus a gait analysis (FOC).

I also slightly suffer but when I bounce off the floor I do it on the mat.

What JM doesnt do is a full warmup!!!! You need to warm up the knees and legs for at least 5 mins plus more stretching (holding 25 seconds). Worth a go.

My husbands knees have improved loads but has to watch the direction he pushes them he now does triathalons, 100 mile cycle rides and runs with no problems at all.

I have the Jessie Wallace DVD...dont think the impact on knees is too bad and it is a good workout....so far the only home one I have done that I actually felt the next day, particularly in my arse cheeks :)

It isn't everybody's cup of tea, but I do Tracy Anderson's Mat DVD.

I have bad knees and it was recommended to me. Apart from some pliés in the warm up there is nothing that strains your knees. The exercises look like gentle dance type movements, but I can assure you that they kick your butt work.

I have bad knees and to break myself in gently I started with Leslie sansone walking ones.

The are stupidly easy but very gentle on the knees. Towards the end I used to put them on mute and listen to my own music though.

I came across Fitness Blender recently. They have about 80 full length, free fitness videos, on their website and on Youtube. Haven't tried it yet, but thete's a few specifically for beginners so I'd guess they'd be safe on the knees.

I sometimes do a Joey Atlas LBHT one which is slow and controlled, and has a great exercise that strengthens the knees - think it's called calf raises but you do them with your heels hanging over the edge of a step. Slowly raise and lower 15 times keeping knees straight, then do each leg individually.
