Am I unrealistic to try low carb diet with my already restricted diet?

My baby (13 months) is breastfed and anaphylactic to milk and eggs. So I also cannot have milk products, cheese, cream etc or eggs in any form. Not only because Im bf but because those items wouldnt be in the house as a tiny touch will mean he reacts. Also celery, and peas, green lentils, all nuts.

Im doing low carb as Im told it may help even out my hideous PMT, Im only on day two and Im liking the results so far. My stomach is FLAT Shock.

However, he feeds a LOT so I tend to be really quite hungry. Im looking for lowcarb snack but all I see is cheese, eggs, nuts, celery...

Apart from pork scratchings (fuck yeah!!! Grin) I cant think of anything else.

Im eating ham and low carb sausages and tinned salmon but really these are 'meal time' things. Ive already eaten two days worth of lunch stuff and Im sitting on my hands trying not to eat my bowl of veg soup as its meant for lunch and its only 10.34am!

WWYD?

I want to stick with it, I really do! Plus I need to lose a stone.

This sounds tough. How about pâté on cucumber? Prawns? . You could repost this on our Bootcamp thread and see if any of the others have bright ideas. Well done for sticking with it, think I would have given up!

First of all, get yourself over to the low-carb bootcamp threads because you'll get LOADS of input and support to keep you going Smile. You don't have to follow bootcamp to the letter if you're breastfeeding and already somewhat restricted but there will be lots of ideas there.

Then, re:snacks - how about smoked salmon, avocado, chunks of roast chicken, pepperami, thick slices of cucumber spread with pate? Sometimes you have to think a bit laterally when low-carbing - I don't think it matters if you eat 'mealtime' foods at all!

Oh, that sounds tough. However, once you're into the swing with low carb, if you're eating enough at mealtimes you shouldn't feel the need to snack. This means your meals have to satisfy - if your lunch is just a bowl of veg soup this won't have enough protein or fat to keep you going. If you're starving by 10.34, your breakfast hasn't been substantial enough - what did you have ?

I'd drop sugar and wheat and see what happens.

You probably need to up your fats and protein. If you have something like bacon, sausage and mushrooms for breakfast then cook them in lots of olive oil, coconut oil, lard or beef dripping. Lots of oily dressings on salad, add avocado to them, extra meat or fish and choose oily fish and fatty cuts of meat.

Put garlicky olive oil or coconut oil on your veggies at dinner time, cook meat with lots of fats.

For snacks try mini meat balls, strips of chicken, suasages, bacon, All fried in lard or dripping, sardines, chunks of avocado, maybe roll ham or smoked salmon around them.

Once you get fat adapted you will find you are less hungry and won't need to snack as much but in order to get to that point you have to eat lots and lots of fat.

Also check out BIWI's Low Carb Bootcamp because there are some amazinly knowledgable people there and I'm sure they will have great ideas.

Thanks for the replies! Pate on cucumber was an amazing idea! Yum, thanks! I havent had pate on donkeys years (fat content!) and tonight I did.

I am no longer ravenous. Grin

if you find it hard low carbing with those food restrictions why not have a look at slow carbing? link here

having said that I've just noticed you mention no lentils etc and I did eat a lot of those when slow carbing (mainly because I was vegetarian at the time)
