can someone explain why a 150g (raw) steak shows up as only 36g of protein? I'm confused! surely it's got to be closer to er 150g? Confused?

well meat isn't just protein is it

MissWooWoo · 04/07/2012 21:01

well no there's some fat in there and a miniscule amount of carbs but 36g of protein seems silly for a 150g piece of what is essentially protein ... where are all the food scientists tonight?

Water and fat!

If you buy protein powder (no water or far or carbs) you can see what 25g of protein looks like. And a cooked steak will be higher in protein for same weight as some of water evaporates in cooking process.
