Has anyone ever used a personal trainer?

Just that really - I have a lot of weight to lose and struggle to get into a decent exercise routine. I know they're expensive, but just wondered if it would be worth the investment?

Would love to hear about any experiences!

I haven't but I would love to have one!

If you struggle with motivation then I reckon having an appointment made to meet a PT and have paid up front then that should do the job.

I love watching the tv shows where the overweight 'subject' gets all the diet help and personal training. They always do well.

PT's in my area are about £40 per hour!! Are you a member of a gym...maybe if not then join and make use of the fitness instructors there - get them to set you a programme applicable to your goals and tartets.

In an ideal world a PT would be fab but if you have a lot of weight to lose and need them to motivate you you would need an awful lot of sessions.

Diet is more important than exercise so maybe just concentrate on that first, get your new menus/food intake sorted and once you have conquered that then start focusing on the exercise front.

Set realistic goals, look at small pictures rather than the big long road ahead, makes it a bit less daunting.

Good luck!

Kind of Grin
I train as a group thing (team training) but you get a lot of individual help, and 3 sessions a week. Diet advice, support, emails etc included and it's cheaper

I have a personal trainer who I see twice a week. We do a mixture of things incuding boxing, circuits, weights, cardio. The main benefit I have got from him is probably a change in my attitude. I no longer give classes or exercise in general a half hearted attempt. I really go for it. His mantra is that you have no limits. I'd really recommend it. For me, the more sessions you book, the cheaper it is. It keeps me motivated and at times I hate him but that 1:1 attention is great.....although tonight when I was wrecked from doing circuits with him, he had to hold me up to do the plank!

Yes. I use one twice a week.

I had done everything else including fitness instructors at the gym and schedules etc. This works for me

I am losing a couple of pounds a month, toning up, feeling bloody brilliant.

It is expensive but if you can afford it it can be invaluable. I simply couldn't have done this on my own and I am fitter than I have been for 20 years.

Trainers are a personal thing though. You need to 'fit'
Mine has become a friend. She helps me with diet, nutrition, motivation, confidence. It is worth every penny to me.

traffichalter · 05/07/2012 23:54

I have.

I love 'em.

Cannot get enough.

traffichalter · 05/07/2012 23:55

Urrrgh the plank, though.

RightsaidFreud · 06/07/2012 16:29

I have, best way to work out IMO if you can afford them.

Currently though, i'm too poor to go back to mine anytime soon. Damn their prices!

uuugh, don't remind me of the plank!

BIWItheBold · 06/07/2012 16:35

I see mine twice a week - it is expensive but worth every penny IMO. But you will need to look at your diet too - exercise alone will not be enough

(Pag - there can't be anything left of you!)
