A new thread for those of us who started in January 2012 and anyone starting now. Everyone welcome for support, encouragement and occasional arse kicking :)

Went out at 7.30 this morning Shock for W1 R3. Got chilly ears - anyone recommend a running hat?!

jchocchip · 15/09/2012 11:55

I've got a fleece hat for cold and a cap for sunny days.
parkrun this morning forgot my barcode :( Was talking to a lady who has lost 8 stone with Slimming World and off to the woman of the year competition next week.

jchocchip · 15/09/2012 11:58

Oh and I've lost weight again, finally, lost 3lb below the lowest recorded weight on mfp, but actually 8lb over the week!

cinnamongreyhound · 16/09/2012 08:26

Well done all those getting out and jchocchip on weight loss!

I've hurt my foot so can't run :( really frustrated about it!!!!

Has anyone used the nhs couch to 5k+ speed podcast? Just downloaded it and I'm going to give it a go later. Only just noticed it when I was linking to c25k in another thread...

cinnamongreyhound · 17/09/2012 22:06

Haven't seen it or used jchocchip just tried to push myself a bit more each run.

Hoping I don't have to start again from the beginning as I have broken three bones in my foot so won't be running for a while Sad

jchocchip · 17/09/2012 22:20

Can you swim with a broken foot, that's not weight bearing...
Tried the C25K+speed tonight and really liked hearing laura again, and the 1,2,3,4 def helped my pace! downloaded the +stamina and +stepping stone too :)

cinnamongreyhound · 18/09/2012 06:44

Sounds good, hope it helps your speed. Have a cast so not going near water at the moment!

Very sorry to hear about the broken foot and very excited to hear about the new NHS podcasts. More Laura - be still my beating heart! Off to download...

Hello ladies, sorry to highjack your thread, but would love some advice from yourselves regarding sports bras and running.

I gave birth 3 months ago and I am still BF, so boobs are massive. I am running on average 15 - 20 mile per week as I'm doing the Great South run next month, but all my running bras are old and worn out and before going out and splashing out lots of money, I wondered if you could point me in the right direction.

I did buy a shock absorber running bra, which had like a bikini style plastic fastener at the back, but after 2 runs that has already broken away. Apart from that the bra was really good at keeping my boobs in check, are there any others that you would recommend. Hope you don't mind me asking. Thanks so much for your time x

dotty2 · 18/09/2012 13:35

Hi Mt2B - you're very welcome to pop in. My husband buys Trail Running magazine and this bra recently won its 'best in test'. I've just bought one but haven't road tested it yet, so can't testify to its efficacy. The other tip I've heard is to double up - proper sports bra with stretchy control top on top. Good luck with the bra, and your run.

MegBusset · 18/09/2012 13:44

I haven't got a sports bra - does everyone else wear one?

Done week 2 run 1 today. First 90 seconds of running was tough! but the rest was fine, though despite it being absolutely a clear blue sky when I left home, there was a huge cloudburst halfway round so I got soaked!

Em3978 · 18/09/2012 15:12

I have a sports bra, a Shock Absorber. its size 36DD though I'm now a 32E so I really ought to get a new one... This one is still working well though, I have minimal bounce and no pain afterwards (which I would get in a bra that doesn't support enough).

Just did w8r2, (wow nearly at the end!!) and did the first half up a steady incline to the next village, the only way uphill from my house, so that I could have a downhill for the second half. And I did it; 28 mins solid running!!!

jchocchip · 19/09/2012 18:52

went out early this morning and did the c25k+speed again with dh - it definitely reminds you that you should up your pace which is what I need at the moment and running up and down an incline was good too.

Sorry I suggested swimming cinnamon didn't think you would have a cast :(

cinnamongreyhound · 19/09/2012 18:57

Don't worry jchocchip, a swim sounds lovely! Dh thinks I might get a removable one tomorrow but I really have no idea. Glad you enjoyed the new podcast again.

Didn't answer about the bra as I never bought anything special, was a 36G when I started but since losing weight I am now a 32D Sad Sad never had such small boobs in my life and I miss them!

cinnamon poor you! I hope your foot heals soon. I did something similar years back and walked on broken bones for quite a while before getting it sorted and had to have a lot of rest and physio-not fun.

I'm checking back in, just did w4r1 this morning and found it hard going, but didn't stop to walk, so I'm quite pleased :)

What music do you put on to keep motivated/ keep your pace up? I use the RunDouble app so can put any playlist in-currently I warm up to Ayo, run with Pink or Black Eyed Peas, and warm down to Shakira, but I need a change!

TellMeLater · 19/09/2012 20:47

Ouch sounds painful cinnamon and very frustrating!

Best sports bra is the Enell - not sure it's suitable for breast feeding as its almost like a compression wrap around your boobs and that may stop milk flow, its ugly but we all still wear it's the business those boobs are not bouncing anywhere!

MegBusset · 19/09/2012 20:55

My boobs have shrunk too since I have being doing Shred and C25k, why is it that when I put on weight it's on my hips but when I lose it it's from my boobs Hmm

sagelynodding · 19/09/2012 23:38

My boobs have shrunk too and my face and arms but not my arse!! I double up-mid-impact sports bra and v tight cropped top-I refuse to buy any more expensive bras until my shape and size get themselves sorted!

dotty2 · 20/09/2012 14:04

I did the new C25k+ speed podcast this morning. I found it quite hard. It alternates running at 150 and 165 strides per minute, and it turns out that my normal running speed is quite a bit less than 150. I do sprint intervals myself but alternate faster, but much shorter bursts with a slow jog. So this will be interesting - hope it will have some impact on my speed.

Went in the rain because I didn't realise it was raining until I was already outside and then thought I might as well. Couldn't see out of my glasses by the time I was back - and my first run this autumn in the dark, or near dark (about 6.15am). So back to boring runs along roads.

New running bra OK but think should have gone down a band size - worn it now, so too late to change.

MegBusset · 20/09/2012 17:52

Supposed to run today but I have a cold and feel yucky :(

dotty2 · 20/09/2012 19:47

Sorry to hear that, Meg. Maybe you have caught a chill from your soggy run on Tuesday, like a Jane Austen heroine Wink - don't worry about having a few days off if you're poorly - you'll soon get back into it. I am usually pleasantly surprised when I've had a break how good it feels (and even if it feels horrible, it will get better!)

MammaTo2boys · 21/09/2012 08:35

Many thanks for your sports bra ideas. I have ordered the triumph one as suggested by Dotty2, however have looked at the enell too. I will look into that one if the triumph doesn't hold me in place. Once again, thanks for your time, take care and happy running (I've got an 8 mile run for this afternoon Grin).

Dogwalks · 21/09/2012 08:39

Help!! Stuck on week 5 run 3, did run 2last night, in rain and wind will aim to do run 3 on saturday, really worried i cant do it. Please send me reassurance this run can be done. Love reading all your messages.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/09/2012 19:39

I would say have faith in yourself and the plan Dogwalks, take it steady and you WILL complete it! Everyone has doubts at this stage but if you have the nhs podcast Laura will talk you through.

Went to hospital yesterday and I'm still in backing cast. Should get a fibreglass one with a heel plate on weds which I will be in for two weeks then one with a whole foot plate for a further 4 weeks. Dr says 3 months before I can run and even then it may well be very painful Sad. I'm so gutted, really was a runner and I miss it so much already. Feel like I'll have to start at the beginning again and may not even be able to run.

I will stick around here if you guys don't mind but I have to say I'm very Envy of all of you getting out for a run!
