How do you fit 10,000 in a day, what's your routine? Used to find it really easy to do that many when we lived in London but now we're in small village so just don't walk as far at all. And ds LOATHES his buggy so it's hard to go for long walks anyway. Some ideas, please! Thanks, Dinny

my ds is older so i walk him to school, i also take dd out in the buggy during the day, i walk to shops reguarly, when i'm in the house i'm busy walking upstairs to get a washing, hanging it out etc running around after dd oh the list goes on...........

dinny · 26/02/2006 08:22

Kidstrack, do you put on a pedometer in the house then?

Lol GOD NO, i'm just on my feet all the time, i sit down at lunch time for an hour, i might be quite shocked to find i prob do more than the average/recomended 10 000 steps a day

dinny · 26/02/2006 08:29

did wonder! lol! maybe I do more walking than I think as don't sit down at all during day, except for lunch and maybe 20 mins with the paper when ds asleep. I hadn't been thinking of walking in the house, only outside..

ah see, its the same where ever you are you always forget that you are actually walking when in and around the house doing chores seeing to baby, when i used to work in an office i was up and down like a yo yo at the printer taking paperwork to other parts of the building, it all adds up

dinny · 26/02/2006 08:45

ooh, maybe I do enough steps then... always up and down stairs.

peter wear a pedometer at all times, he averages 7000 steps a day atm, every step counts!

dinny · 26/02/2006 08:51

wow, Misdee, and he's in hopsital! that's great. does he pace the corridors?

OP posts:
misdee · 26/02/2006 10:20

yes, he paces the corrdiors. he also walks round the inside of the hospital on very cold/wet days, on better days we walk round the grounds.

dinny · 27/02/2006 06:27

right, I have purchased a pedometer and have put it on to get some idea of how many (or few!) steps I am doing in a normal day. it's alrady 1,000 and I've only been up since 6, so maybe it will get up to the magic number!

I wore mine for a couple of weeks to see what my average was. I put it on in the morning after dressing and didn't take it off til bedtime so all steps counted.

I found on days at home with ds and at some days at the weekends I was doing 11,000 plus but that did include a couple of walks to the shops and back (usually 15-20 minutes each way)

On the days at work (office bound) I was struggling to get over 7,000 (more usually 5,000 - 6,000. What it showed me was that if I went for a 20-30minute walk at lunchtime during work days I was probably meeting my target over the week which is what is important.

There are the odd weekend days though when I'm really lazy and don't leave the house and since dh is home then I'm sure I don't even reach 3,000 on those days Blush

dinny · 27/02/2006 22:25

I am SURE mine malfuctioned as I'd done 20,000 by 6pm. (though I did have a long walk to next village today). still, can't believe it was that much. bag of shite!
