Does anyone only eat when they're hungry?

I'm rarely hungry in the morning - today, for example, I didn't have breakfast until 2pm (2 slices of toast with homemade lemon curd) and now just about to have dinner - I haven't snacked in between. Last night I had chicken thai curry and rice. Not a massive portion - made from scratch with loads of veggies.

Dinner is going to be sausages, pots and salad. I'll probably eat big bowl of berries and greek yoghurt at about 11am tomorrow.

So - based on today's in-take I'm probably not eating enough so is my body going into starvation mode? Should I be forcing myself to eat first thing to get my metabolism kick started?

I'd like to lose a further half a stone (have lost about 2 stone over the last few years using ww and myfitnesspal)

Any ideas? Am I doing myself harm buy only eating when I'm hungry?

Generally we eat later at the weekend - brunch on both days - If I have to get out of the house early I struggle to have breakfast and can often find myself having not eaten until early afternoon. Often I'll only have a snack in the evening for dinner - something like cheese and crackers (dh works odd shifts so can't be bothered to cook for me). I do occasionally get something out of the freezer to have with rice - normally a random curry...

Are you suppressing your appetite with coffee or similar?

Not intentionally - I have a cup of tea when I get up - one when I get back from school run and another about midday? Is tea an appetite suppressant?

Today I had breakfast at about 10am (as I knew if I didn't it would be another late breakfast and have just started to feel a bit peckish so plan to have a sandwich about 1pm.

If this is how you naturally eat then I don't see a problem...until it comes to losing weight! I would guess that your body has become very used to the level of calories you give it so chances are your metabolism is lower than the average person's. That is ok as long as you feel happy (not hungry) and are in good health. But it also means that to reduce calories further in order to lose weight you would need to reduce your food intake to a level that would not be good for your health in terms of getting vitamins/minerals etc?

Do you exercise? If you are determined to lose that last half stone you may be best trying to do so that way? Failing that maybe a very low carb diet, which works slightly differently from reduced calorie diets....although personally I am unconvinced of the long term benefits of these (in that to keep the weight off you have stick to the way of eating, I think most people like their carbs too much to do that, I do anyway! Grin.)

Thanks - I'm wondering if I should pro-actively aim to boost my metabolic rate and force myself to eat breakfast earlier - generally about 200g of mixed berries and greek yog - does seem to keep me full for ages.

Yesterday I had toast at about 11am, then a chicken wrap at 4pm and then one sausage and small pile of mash at about 8pm followed by a magnum icecream.

I've just re-started the shred to try and up the exercise count - I walk about 30 mins a day anyway but know that the shred really does work so it's my fall back when I need to kickstart.

It would probably be a good idea to increase your intake of fruit and veg and things that are high in protein and/or good fats..think nuts, avocados, oily fish, eggs, purely from a nutritional point of view. The Greek yoghurt is great, lots of protein and calcium. I just wonder if with such a low calorie intake on a daily basis that you aren't getting enough nutrients for health, do you take supplements? I think you could gradually eat more and your body will adjust but it will take time, definitely up the exercise if you do this and want to lose weight!

I do take a multi-vit when I remember - I'd say I probably even out at around 1300 -1500 calories a day - this is what it generally works out when I log everything on myfitnesspal.

I do prefer a higher protein diet and I don't generally eat much processed food - and if you ignore the sausage and icecream! I try not to eat too much bread as it makes me feel really bloated - I do get low blood pressure which I know could be better managed through a more regular intake of food - but it's hard when you're not hungry.

Will try to include more good fats - we do eat fish a couple of times a week - not so much nuts/avocado - I do have salad with a sandwich to try and balance the meal a bit more.
