Weight gain whilst on anti-depressants. How do I shift this extra stone+

I've been taking anti-d's for the last 18months (escitalopram 10mg)
I've gained at least a stone and a half, probably nearer two. I'm 5 foot 2 and ideally would like to get back to 8.5 stone although I think 9 stone is more realistic. I haven't weighed myself for months, I was 10.2 when I last did and I know I'm bigger now

None of my clothes fit properly, my tummy is bloated, I have back fat etc ...

I need to change my eating habits, I'm craving bad carbs and chocolate, I never eat breakfast. I bought a treadmill that is sat gathering dust!

Is anyone else in the same boat? Any advice would be gratefully received!

Actually, yes, though I am on mirtazapine, which is well known for weight gain, and causes terrible carb / sugar cravings. Is weight-gain an actual documented side effect of escitalopram, or is there another cause? Anyway, I put on a lot - 20 lbs or so, when I was already overweight from comfort eating - and I am now calorie counting and exercising (40 mins 5 times a week). Working a treat for me. BUT I had to do a lot of work in my own head overcoming my use of food to make me less sad / anxious. That was really the key. I also make sure I save a lot of calories for the evening (half), and eat a very big dinner later (9pm) as then I just don't snack at night, which is always what got me. It is about finding something that works for you, though. I don't think there is a magic right answer for everyone.

I have roughly the same issue. Including the back fat.

Thanks for the replies, I wonder what was deleted?
Well, I weighed myself and I'm 10stone 5lbs. That is the heaviest I've ever been, even when pregnant Blush. My bmi is 25.4 which makes me officially overweight

Escitalopram isn't really regarded as being a factor in weight gain but it's my excuse and I'm bloody well sticking to it Wink obviously my anxiety and depression were affecting my appetite, and now that they're gone I've rediscovered the joys of food!

My ideal weight is 8 and a half stone, but that seems a long way off. 25lbs to lose ... Better dust of that treadmill Smile
