As the title suggests, really...

What has worked for you?

What's kept you going?

Exercise V Food or both? (Think I know the answer but wondered if people have lost lots with one or the other or both)

You have to really want to loose weight for yourself, and take it seriously. That's the psychology.

Physically you burn off more calories than you consume. Easy.

trixieanne 10 stone?! That's brilliant!

trixieanne · 14/05/2012 09:52

Thank you :-)

Chocdee - fascinating I am going to try the weights thing on my dog walks! Can I ask do you move your arms more? I am struggling to see how my bingo wings might tone up!

KatMumsnet · 14/05/2012 11:22

Hi, we've moved this to Big/slim/whatever weight loss club. Thanks.

I've lost 2 stone and 5 inches round my waist so far (since Jan).

I use myfitnesspal.com and eat 1500-1600kcal a day on average and I exercise at least 2 hours a day (I walk everywhere e.g. school run is 2 hours a day and do a 45 min workout 4-5 times a week).

I cook everything myself and have gradually reduced the amount of fat/kcal in what I eat and gradually changed to healthier options and smaller portions. My appetite has shrunk and my tastes have changed.

I still have a long way to go but by making changes gradually I am hoping (and it seems to be working so far) the changes/healthy habits will stick for life so I don't put the weight back on again.

I hate the idea of going to groups (I'm too anti-social and cheap to pay for them) and I love cooking so adapting recipes to make them healthier is an enjoyable challenge. I still use things like olive oil and butter and proper foodstuffs but am careful about quantities.

I went from 13 and half stone to 9 stone in 8 months last year by low carbing and cutting out all crap. Managed to maintain it so far this year. I did absolutely no exercise and haven't eaten chocolate, cakes or biscuits for almost 13 months.

foreverondiet · 14/05/2012 17:28

I was 12 5 when DS2 was 6 months old. Now maintaining 8 10.

Lower carb and exercise is what works for me. I also like myfitnesspal. Try and keep protein above 100g and carbs below 100g.

I don't eat grains, processed foods or sugar. I eat lots of meat, fish, eggs, dairy, veg and some fruit, nuts and seeds. Everything cooked from scratch. And treats of 85% chocolate. At maintainance can eat more at weekend just be careful in week.

Well done to you all. I am so glad I found this thread. I am 2.5 stone overweight and desperately unhappy. I can't wear nice clothes, hate social situations and don't want sex or any intimacy. I feel my life is passing me by. I am worried my children will learn ny bad habits . Some of these stories have given me real hope. I am going to begin tomorrow.

WillowFae · 30/06/2012 16:41

26.5lb in 8 weeks. Mixture of WW and another programme to address my food issues. No exercise yet as I don't have the time during term time unfortunately :(

Loving this thread-thx!

3 stones loss several years ago on low-carb, but gradually put it all back as I couldn't/didn't want to keep on eating less carbs.

Last year lost 3 stones using Paul McKenna principles - much more sustainable because I can eat what I want but I recognise hunger and full signals better now.

I still use his principles, still eat anything I want but also love logging my food calories in MyFitnessPal to lose the last bit of weight. I'm eating the recommended calories for my goal weight (1800 cals average - more on exercise days).

I've also started swimming intensively 3 times a week which seems to be helping weightloss alot. Will start going to the gym soon too.
