How long for a weekend of crap to show on the scales?

Ok so I had the operation and have had two weeks stuck on the sofa with my partner cooking all the meals. I didn't snack and wasn't allowed wine. I went from 12'2 down to 11'8 !! Feeling chuffed I resolved to continue. Still no snacking and a couple of bottles of wine over a week.
Weight at week 3....12 stone!!! How can I put it on that quickly?

I can put 5 lbs over the weekend!

So how does anyone diet then? I have never really been on one before as I've always been 10 -11 stone and happy with it. Now it's crept up to 12 I need to think about it.
I can't see how you do the low cards or low calorie because won't you need to eat like that forever otherwise the weight goes back on?
I don't mind eating less for a bit but what's the point if a bit of wine or bread sets you back as soon as look at it?

I've read that you put on 5lb when you come off a diet, and that's true if you truely come off the diet. When I carry on calorie-counting at maintenance I don't put anything on, but if I take my eye off the ball it seems to be 4lb goes on easily. Obviously it's not real fat, but excess water, food etc.

Yes 5lbs of water retention from excess carbs. I lost 4 stone last year and keeping it off. Am generally careful all week but if I overeat at weekend then put on 5lb over weekend although those it within a few days.

And I now never eat bread as it really does set me back. If I want to be slim in late 30s need to keep carbs down. Thats just the way it is. So yes diet is new way of eating.

1kg of glycogen in your liver also has 3 kg of water with it. Burn of the glycogen, and the water goes, too.

And glycogen easily replaced, hence easy to gain. But it isn't fat gain just water rentention.
