Advice sought - how to get started with weight loss?

I have glanced through a few threads here and would really appreciate some advice on where to get started diet-wise, and exercise-wise too!

I am 5'6" and currently weigh just under 11 stone. I would like to lose at least 1 stone (mainly from around my middle, where it has accumulated following 3 kids and general laziness!!). I am vegetarian though do eat fish (whatever that makes me!!) and have a hip replacement that is nearing the end of its life so I'm a little restricted in the exercise department (currently advised to mainly swim, though can cycle if not irritating back and I do a couple dog walks (often slowly with kids!) each week). I used to go to the gym but my options there are so limited and finding time was getting harder that I sadly stopped my membership, and currently only swim once a week which is no good at all I know for weight loss! I struggle finding time for exercise (young kids, part-time work, DH works long hours) and also still struggle with a big appetite from when I was breastfeeding, which I find hard to curb!!

A virtual kick up the backside is needed please and a strategy to start realistic weight loss - any advice really appreciated ! Thank you.

Swimming and walking fine, diet more important anyway.

How motivated are you? Why not try myfitnesspal combined with a drive for healthy eating and see how that goes?

Thanks - I think the key is indeed motivation, which I need to muster! But equally need to crack some bad food habits (constantly tired and constantly crave sugar and probably comfort eat too) - which I'm not so sure about how to tackle.
I definitely need to build in time somehow to exercise more - any tips?
