Lots of you have said you want to do this - now it's time to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

Oh, alright, it's free. Grin

The plan is that we have two very strict weeks of low carbing. Which is why, doh, it's called a bootcamp.

There are 'rules of engagement' for the fortnight - but they're different if you're carnivore or a vegetarian. I shall post the rules for us carnivores, and flipflopflap will post the rules for those of you that are vegetarians.

Sign in with your starting weight - in pounds, stones and pounds, kilos or - if you don't want to reveal your weight, with 100 as an index - and what you're wanting to achieve in the two weeks. I know that not everyone is doing this for the purpose of weight loss, so you don't have to do this if you don't want to - but tell us what you want this fortnight to help you achieve.

The Carnivore Rules

1.Eat three, proper meals a day.
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food
Focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs. Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. You can have them, but just not every day. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Eat lots of fat.

Eating fat helps you to burn fat. Honestly! Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though, as this is too sweet), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ?
This is where your carbs should come from, and this is non-negotiable. But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list. You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

*5.Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited). It can impede weight loss for some people. If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but don't overdo it. Full fat yoghurt is the best way to include dairy in your diet - but beware, it does contain carbs. Total Full Fat is the best.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol
If you really can't do this - at least try and restrict it to the weekend. Vodka with soda is the best thing to drink. Or Champagne, red wine or dry white wine.

8.No fruit
Really. Seriously. Honestly. None at all. Zilch. Nada.

9.No nuts/seeds
Whilst these are really good to snack on later - it can be too easy to start snacking on these - and before you know it, all your carbs have gone on nuts. Seriously - in bootcamp - don't do it to yourself.

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Jax When you go into the house, say your tummy feels a bit funny and you're not sure how much you'll be able to eat, then decide how much based on what she offers you.

flipflopflap · 19/04/2012 17:03

Now I really want to Google! How bad is it really?

I've decided tonight's drinking session with DH will be 1 Gin, with soda and lime. That's it, even if he tries to tempt me into another!

The rest of my day has been

B: Alpro yogurt, ground flax and coconut.
L: Veg sausage and smoked cheese salad with mayo
S: A bit more smoked cheese (naughty) and 5 almonds
D: Thai mushroom hot pot (Which is mega tasty)

CheerfulYank · 19/04/2012 17:04

Have had a string cheese and two hardboiled eggs today. And coffee with splenda.

I cannot give up caffeine. I would kill someone.

I feel good but exhausted. I need to start forcing myself to go to bed at a reasonable hour.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 19/04/2012 17:39

CheerfulYank - please don't tell me that is all you have eaten? Shock

What happened to the three meals a day? With veg/salad?

.... or is there a time difference and you're in the US ?

Please tell me it is the latter and not the former! And then I will forgive you the Splenda [generous]

Twit · 19/04/2012 17:45

Back again Smile

So I might have this completely wrong but I was desperate reading the jar of tesco value pasta sauce and it said it was 4.6 per 100g. So if I added mince to it would that be ok? I add other veg etc for everyone else, but could I seperate a bit of the mince off and have some?

Oh yes, I think Cheerfullyank mentioned she is on a different zone from us. Hopefully that is breakfast.

greygirl · 19/04/2012 17:52

well i am working late and some well-meaning soul has bought in belgian chocolate biscuits....and i am starving (i am eating when i get home).

i have to tell someone - it feels better now, thank you.

i am still weeing tonnes mind you.

ledkr · 19/04/2012 17:58

Hello.Sorry no weigh in today as i was at work by 8 and had a mahoosively busy day.
My wee has been very bright looking Shock what is that?
I cannot drink as much as i should on work days as i have to go out on lots of visits to houses that you wouldnt want to wee in iyswim?
I am ok,getting abit dis heartened as i would still love something sweet but have not given in once.
I am about to attempt some oopsy rolls and may try the mim recipe tomorrow.
I will weigh in tomorrow and let you know. Dont feel thinner though Sad

LackaDAILYcarb · 19/04/2012 18:04

That sounds fine to me Twit....but are you planning on missing the veg as well? If you put courgettes, mushrooms and celery in, it will still be fine for you to eat.

I am feeling proper rough :( I think my carb withdrawal is now kicking in, and every fibre of my being is screaming at me to eat some hot buttered toast and have a banana, and chocolate, and a big plate of egg fried rice while I'm at it...

I have picked at some thai curry, but avoided the rice, and like a lot of people yesterday just do not feel like I can eat anything without puking.

I've done well today so far though; scrambled eggs and ham for breakfast, and prawns in spicy mayo and salad for lunch and then an avocado with more prawns and mayo a couple of hours ago.

I felt ravenously hungry. Not enough to eat? Not enough fat? or not yet in ketosis?

I have my big important job interview tomorrow; I do not want to feel ill during that :(

ledkr · 19/04/2012 18:10

Maybe you should have just one slice of toast in the morning,i wouldnt risk a big interview feeling shite.I felt faint for amoment at work,it really scared me and set off the lectures from colleagues.I felt as if i was a 13 stone anorexic Shock

smokinaces · 19/04/2012 18:10

Pork belly and veg for dinner.

Brocolli and stilton homemade soup on the stove and oopsie rolls in oven. Whisked by hand. My arm aches!!!

Twit · 19/04/2012 18:29

Ok thanks lacksa Smile will add them then, might be the way forward for me, cheap and nutritious and low carb.

I dunno, I felt like that earlier, so since Monday evening I've been crap I cannot really face food and can barely move first thing in the morning, useful with the kids to get to school/nursery Hmm and although it gets better through the day I really struggle to move and eat.
I am going to have a teeny bowl of bare porridge tonight, I simply cannot handle feeling this shit in the morning having been up 3/4 times feeding BabyTwit Angry, and I hope I feel a bit better in the morning. I might have a teensy bowl in the morning if I still feel shit TBH.
Ok I'm rambling, but I'm trying to say how bad it could be tomorrow in a helpful way IYSWIM. What with your job interview it might be better to eat a bit of carb to get you through your job interview (i know I know I'm sorry)
Hopefully BIWI et al will have a better way of dealing with it though PLEASE don't think I'm trying to undermine anyone, I'm not I just know how shit I am/have been and know I couldn't have faced a job interview.

TheGoddessBlossom · 19/04/2012 18:30

Lackadailycarb, if I forget to say it later, GOOD LUCK FOR YOUR INTERVIEW!!!

And who else has a presentation? Wouldn't it be good if the interivew question was "What eating plan do you recommend and why?" and the presentation was on "Recipes for Low Carb eating"....Grin You'd both ace it.

TheGoddessBlossom · 19/04/2012 18:32

Can someone please advise on why myfitnesspal says my glass of red wine has no carbs?

londonone · 19/04/2012 18:35

Just as a reassurance for whoever it was about thai food. I have just come back from two weeks in thailand and ate thai every night, I skipped the rice and tended to focus on the salads, curries and stir fries! I even had satay with sauce rather a lot of times. I stayed in ketosis until I chose to have a few drinks at a social event so although thai does use sugar ijn the sauces, provided you dont't slurp them up you should be ok.

londonone · 19/04/2012 18:37

Forgot to say, 4 pounds off since sunday and only been bootcamping since tuesday! Yay!

teaandthorazine · 19/04/2012 18:37

Because it luffs you, blossom? I would take it at it's word Grin

I have just had my first protein shake. It was... okay. I ordered a bunch of samples from myprotein and have just tried the vanilla one. Mixed it with water and have run out of cream though, so am thinking it could be a lot nicer and more luxurious with those added. Also I have mint choc flavour which I'm quite excited about as apparently it tastes 'just like' mint Areo...

RadioSilence · 19/04/2012 18:40

It was me and thank you so much londonone. I will try to be sensible and give the wine a miss so fingers crossed it will not undo all my good work.

smokinaces · 19/04/2012 18:43

Mmm. Did a mim with cinnamin. Have had half. Not sure on it.

Oopsie rolls look good though, and smell like cheese scones!!

smokinaces · 19/04/2012 18:44

Couldn't resist an oopsie. Wow. Looking forward to breakfast now :-)

Twit · 19/04/2012 18:46

Oh and a whole bucket of good luck to you in your interview Smile

smokinaces · 19/04/2012 18:54

How long can I keep the broccoli and stilton soup in the fridge? It did three portions.....

TheGoddessBlossom · 19/04/2012 18:56

For you all to bear in mind AFTER bootcamp:

Red wine has been shown to prolong life, hold back cancer and heart disease as well as provide many other health benefits. Luckily, it's the perfect complement to the Atkins, South Beach, and other low carb diet plans!

You might think that grapes are full of sugar - but the entire point of fermentation is for yeast to eat that sugar and turn it into carbon dioxide and alcohol. The whole reason the wine has alcohol is that the sugar was destroyed. While there might be trace amounts of sugar left in the resulting wine, the primary reason for a calorie count in wine is the alcohol.

Wine, or any alcohol, is not appropriate for people in the first 2 weeks of a low carb diet. Part of the first two week process is evening out your blood sugar level, and alcohol lowers blood sugar levels. While this is good in general, you want to have no effects on your blood sugar levels during those first 2 weeks so that your body becomes stabilized.

Once those first 2 weeks are done, you should feel free to have a glass or two of wine as part of a healthy diet. A glass of red wine only has about 2g of carbs in it. No wine has sugar added to it, so you really don't have to worry about finding a "low sugar red".

The only wines to be cautious of are Late Harvest / Icewines - these are harvested late in the year and are not fully fermented, leaving sugar behind in the wine. These are normally white wines and are clearly labelled.

So enjoy red wine with your low carb lunch or dinner! The red wine will help enhance the flavor of your meal, it raises your good cholesterol levels to help offset any fat you're eating, it lowers chances of cancer, heart disease, strokes, ulcers, and more. Recent research shows that it helps prolong life in general.

Woop!!

TheGoddessBlossom · 19/04/2012 18:57

BTW, I have "worked" from home today - which is why i have posted every 5 minutes. On the road tomorrow so you will get a break from my inanity....although it will probably take me 3 hours to catch up on the thread!

TheGoddessBlossom · 19/04/2012 19:02

"So enjoy red wine with your low carb lunch or dinner!" - I like the way they refrain from including breakfast...

coocoocachoo · 19/04/2012 19:04

Weighed in and have lost 3lbs - just since Tuesday! And even then after too much dairy - really pleased!! Though stomach feeling a bit iffy.....do feel like I need more fibre.

B: 2 scrambled eggs with butter
L: 2 portions salmon sashimi (and a bit of miso soup)
D: 1/4 caluiflower mash with butter and mince with courgette and mushroom.

Going to try a Mim - hoping for great things...now worried by smokingaces
