Lots of you have said you want to do this - now it's time to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

Oh, alright, it's free. Grin

The plan is that we have two very strict weeks of low carbing. Which is why, doh, it's called a bootcamp.

There are 'rules of engagement' for the fortnight - but they're different if you're carnivore or a vegetarian. I shall post the rules for us carnivores, and flipflopflap will post the rules for those of you that are vegetarians.

Sign in with your starting weight - in pounds, stones and pounds, kilos or - if you don't want to reveal your weight, with 100 as an index - and what you're wanting to achieve in the two weeks. I know that not everyone is doing this for the purpose of weight loss, so you don't have to do this if you don't want to - but tell us what you want this fortnight to help you achieve.

The Carnivore Rules

1.Eat three, proper meals a day.
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food
Focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs. Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. You can have them, but just not every day. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Eat lots of fat.

Eating fat helps you to burn fat. Honestly! Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though, as this is too sweet), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ?
This is where your carbs should come from, and this is non-negotiable. But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list. You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

*5.Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited). It can impede weight loss for some people. If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but don't overdo it. Full fat yoghurt is the best way to include dairy in your diet - but beware, it does contain carbs. Total Full Fat is the best.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol
If you really can't do this - at least try and restrict it to the weekend. Vodka with soda is the best thing to drink. Or Champagne, red wine or dry white wine.

8.No fruit
Really. Seriously. Honestly. None at all. Zilch. Nada.

9.No nuts/seeds
Whilst these are really good to snack on later - it can be too easy to start snacking on these - and before you know it, all your carbs have gone on nuts. Seriously - in bootcamp - don't do it to yourself.

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

That's a bit thick of them creamtea1...isn't their old "red" day just a variation on low carb?

even if it is also low fat...
...which we know doesn't work in combination

LackaDAILYcarb · 18/04/2012 22:30

yikes sharon, could you not have just eaten the filling and left the lasagne? or would that have been too rude?

or fed it to the dog? Grin

I have been having a staring competition with a creme egg all evening...
I ate tomorrows breakfast of courgette frittata instead though

SharonGless · 18/04/2012 22:49

She went to a lot of trouble to tell is how long it had taken to make the lasagne. She had also baked a cake but managed to get out of that. I was genuinely stuffed but didnt enjoy a mouthful of it as with every bite could feel ketosis slipping away

BIWI forgive me for I have sinned....

lemniscate · 18/04/2012 23:00

Sharon - sometimes it isn't worth upsetting people and you've just got to suck it up and eat those carbs. Completely different situation to the sort of cheats I usually get up to when it's just myself, my willpower and no third party Blush. Drink lots of water before bed, don't hop on the scales for a few days, and just get back on track tomorrow. And don't worry. It will only delay weight loss by a day or so, which is nothing in the grand scheme of things :)

SharonGless · 18/04/2012 23:03

Thanks but it's 3 days of hard work down the pan! Oh well best keep going
Have planned tomorrow so should be fine and get back on track. Drank 4 litres of water today and no more book clubs for a couple of months

CheerfulYank · 19/04/2012 04:26

Aw, sorry Sharon. :( It's a bit easier for me because I've got celiac disease, so people just assume I can't eat whatever it is.

I have also slipped. :( DS was frankly being quite a little...something...this evening, and added to a rough day at work...well, the wine and chocs feel necessary. Blush I think I will start bootcamp anew tomorrow...am boiling eggs and grilling chicken in advance.

LackaDAILYcarb · 19/04/2012 07:00

Aw, that's rough Sharon. I hope you are feeling ok this morning.

Jumped on the scales this morning and an down 1.2kg since Monday :)

LackaDAILYcarb · 19/04/2012 07:04

I'm coeliac as well CheerfulYank, it certainly makes avoiding cake and biscuit easier!

I must admit though Sharon, I like the sound of your book club if lovely grub is provided :o

FauxFox · 19/04/2012 07:07

Morning all, plan for today is B: salami and cheese, L: Prawn and veg stirfry, D: Smoked salmon and asparagus frittata with avocado and lettuce salad.

Am out for coffee with a fried today but will stick to herbal tea (and no cake) < virtuous >

FauxFox · 19/04/2012 07:08

with a fried?! friend obv Confused

BettyBathroom · 19/04/2012 07:11

Sharon try not to focus on the lasagne, it's only a fuck up if you allow it to sabbotage the rest of your diet. It's not all or nothing, just get back to it today and in a few days time you'll have forgotten all about it.

SharonGless · 19/04/2012 07:15

Thank you for the support. Don't worry I have gotten into perspective this morning. I got on the scale of the month had lost 3 pounds so diet works just need to keep focusing on it now

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 19/04/2012 07:33

Sorry to hear that, Sharon Sad - it's still (after me doing this on and off for years) the hardest part of this WOE. Even with close friends I find it really difficult to say I can't eat something.

Cakes/biscuits are easy enough, but when you're invited round for dinner it's very difficult. I always feel I should say something, but invariably wimp out. If I had a 'real' reason, like an allergy/illness, then I wouldn't hesitate - but as it's 'just' about dieting it seems so trivial! I think it's especially hard because people generally don't get low carbing, and they don't think that one meal will matter - whereas we know just what an impact it can have.

But don't worry about it. TBH it's all part and parcel of making low carb work for you in normal life. Drink lots of water and be super vigilant about your carbs today and hopefully it won't have had too much of an impact. I would imagine that there's probably less pasta in a lasagne than if you'd had a plate of spathetti.

GlitterKitty · 19/04/2012 07:38

i had a disaster too, dont want to go into detail but i ate choc and drank wine, like that would help! Back to the beginning for me too Sad

doradoo · 19/04/2012 07:58

Dreamt I ate toast and jam last night - was very real and felt awful....

But not going well on the weight loss for me - only 100g down so far (had been 300 down, but up 200 again today)

I think I've been too naughty when it comes to nuts (sorry BWMBO ) and I've had some wine too (although less than usual!) which probably hasn't helped.

Also been eating what seems like far too much. Probably need to reassess what I'm doing and be stricter.

Yesterday was:

B - 2 egg spinach and cheese omlette with cream(kept me full for ages didn't need lunch til 1.30)
L - 2 marinated pork steaks, salad, vinaigrette
Snacks - mini salamis and almonds (got to 5 when cooking kids tea before needed anything though so that's better than usual!)
D - Grilled lamb chops, celeriac dauph (lots of cream!), green beans with butter.

Only 2 cups black coffee and lots of water. Oh and 1 glass dry white spritzer

Are my carbs too high still - or are my little slips (wine etc) meaning I've not got to ketosis yet?

TOday am planning to keep off the dairy and no wine/nuts and see how we go.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 19/04/2012 08:09

doradoo - your meals look fine - but if you can avoid the snacks and the wine you will see better results.

Almonds are not that bad, especially if you only ate 5 (I love the idea of all these MNetters religiously counting the nuts they're sinning on!), but the salami is something I'd try and avoid - highly processed and probably lots of salt?

One spritzer is not really that bad

None of it is really not that bad ....

BUT THIS IS BOOTCAMP AND YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE EATING NUTS OR DRINKING WINE [GRIN]

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 19/04/2012 08:10

Ooh - I never knew that the smilies don't work if you keep your cap lock on

Grin
BettyBathroom · 19/04/2012 08:24

Parma Ham is the only cured meat we could find that didn't contain lots of nasties - dh is very pleased....as I had put a household ban on ham. Considering making our own sausages for dh and the kids - does anyone else do this?

GreenEyesAndHam · 19/04/2012 08:29

Flying through as on my way to a meeting but

Woke up with a mouth like the sahara, and jumped on the scales- from the measly 1lb lost previously, this morning showed I've lost 4lb!

Wahey! I'll update the weight thread later.

Have a good day all

MariaCallous · 19/04/2012 08:53

(Sashays in with newly slimmer ass). 5lbs!!

Joy to the world! Posted on the other thread too but didn't feel it was appropriate place to say my skin looks AMAZING and I feel sharper. Think my hair is even sitting better (although that may be something to do with putting DS in his cot while I did it as he usually pulls the plug.

DH is 3 down too, although he is having milk in tea and thinks he is making the WOE more effective by having 2 pieces of fruit a day...

Can't believe I'm halfway to my goal weight after 3 days. Thank you BIWI! I wuv you.

WizzyBizzy · 19/04/2012 08:55

Morning all. Feeling sluggish this morning and a bit behind on my water consumption. Ended up having 2 eggs as snacks last night. Think I may be eating altogether too much. About to pop over to weigh in thread. My scales are properly crap, but I think I'm 3lbs down. Whoop (bit weird as yesterday it looked like nothing at all).

I'm banning myself from eating cheese for 24 hours. And going to try super hard to not snack. Will be tricky as am meeting friends for coffees and playdate this afternoon so will be the first time having to decline biccies etc.

Had two boiled eggs and 2 slices of chorizo this morning. I presume chorizo has same issue as salami? Am off to swap naice ham for parma ham on my online shop...

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 19/04/2012 09:02

TBH I don't know about the ingredients of salami/chorizo, as they are generic names for so many different products. All that I can say is to read the ingredients label.

kandinskysgirl · 19/04/2012 09:06

Hi All... I am here hanging on just working like a crazy person!!

I have been working from about 6am to 11pm so have been organised and got DP to make me lunches and dinners to take (well you do have to delegate Smile). So it is been quite easy to keep on track as I could only eat what I had. The only problem is I couldn't drink as much water as usual as there were times when I couldn't pop to the loo all the time. However I seem to be 3lb down and half an inch off my waist which is nice.

I hope everyone else is going ok and BIWI is being obeyed Grin

moonmother · 19/04/2012 09:11

Sorry couldn't get back on last night, with regards to my bloating I'm going to stick at it for a couple more days, and see if it's just my body getting used to the new way of eating.

I've gone through what I've eaten, and can't see anything that would cause it , I have a intolerance to eggs and leafy green veg Cabbage etc and that usually causes it, or going a long while between meals- which I also haven't been doing.

If by the weekend I'm still blowing up like a balloon come 5pm then I may have to re think doing low carb Sad

Good news is I have lost another lb so thats 3 in total for me so far .

Jacaqueen · 19/04/2012 09:37

I am the same weight as yesterday but pleased to be 6lbs down.

I was starving yesteday and ate loads. All of it was low carb but I did have a bowl of double cream with chopped nuts and cinnamon and rather a lot of cheese.

Today I am having eggs for B, tuna salad for L and chicken and veg for D. All cooked and served with butter, oil and mayo.

No nuts no cream no cheese no snacks!
