Lots of you have said you want to do this - now it's time to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

Oh, alright, it's free. Grin

The plan is that we have two very strict weeks of low carbing. Which is why, doh, it's called a bootcamp.

There are 'rules of engagement' for the fortnight - but they're different if you're carnivore or a vegetarian. I shall post the rules for us carnivores, and flipflopflap will post the rules for those of you that are vegetarians.

Sign in with your starting weight - in pounds, stones and pounds, kilos or - if you don't want to reveal your weight, with 100 as an index - and what you're wanting to achieve in the two weeks. I know that not everyone is doing this for the purpose of weight loss, so you don't have to do this if you don't want to - but tell us what you want this fortnight to help you achieve.

The Carnivore Rules

1.Eat three, proper meals a day.
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food
Focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs. Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. You can have them, but just not every day. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Eat lots of fat.

Eating fat helps you to burn fat. Honestly! Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though, as this is too sweet), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ?
This is where your carbs should come from, and this is non-negotiable. But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list. You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

*5.Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited). It can impede weight loss for some people. If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but don't overdo it. Full fat yoghurt is the best way to include dairy in your diet - but beware, it does contain carbs. Total Full Fat is the best.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol
If you really can't do this - at least try and restrict it to the weekend. Vodka with soda is the best thing to drink. Or Champagne, red wine or dry white wine.

8.No fruit
Really. Seriously. Honestly. None at all. Zilch. Nada.

9.No nuts/seeds
Whilst these are really good to snack on later - it can be too easy to start snacking on these - and before you know it, all your carbs have gone on nuts. Seriously - in bootcamp - don't do it to yourself.

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Those soya beans are very high in carbs Shirl - 8.8g for 80g, and I bet that's a tiny portion. They're Birds Eye, which will mean that they are labelled for the UK, so you don't have to take off the fibre.

But as you didn't buy them, no murderizing quite yet ...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 17/04/2012 15:20

Shirl - what is with the shirty?!

And balsamic dressing - yay or nay?

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 17/04/2012 15:25

Nay to balsamic - it's all sugary.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 17/04/2012 15:34

Cheers

ShirtyKnot · 17/04/2012 15:36

I knew I couldn't have them really BIWI. I promise...

please, not the face, NOT THE FACE

Pistey - Dunno, I was feeling shirty when I namechanged. Grin

SharonGless · 17/04/2012 15:37

Can I ask of we can eat kippers and smoked mackerel as I thought they were on forbidden list but notice some people ate eating them

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 17/04/2012 15:38

Oh - I have been eating smoked salmon and smoked mackerel. It's all right in my book.

I've eaten smoked mackerel so much when low carbing before I can't bear it at all at the mo. Me and the mackerel are have a break......

lemniscate · 17/04/2012 15:42

Smoked fish is perfectly fine. I've been losing quite a bit of weight eating quite a lot of smoked mackerel! However, they probably fall into the processed category like sausages and bacon so you should probably not eat too much of them.

lemniscate · 17/04/2012 15:44

My Birds Eye frozen soya beans are only 4g carbs per 100g so I've been eating them quite happily Confused I thought we didn't count fibre here?

encyclogirl · 17/04/2012 15:45

Ended up having bacon (naice ham really) and cabbage in the pub at lunchtime, minus the spuds

Got the woman to heap up the cabbage and then I lobbed a load of butter on it. She tutted, and said "We'll you've just undone all your good work in not having the spuds there."

Ha ha, how wrong you are missus!

lemniscate · 17/04/2012 15:52

Birds Eye Bastards!!! My pack says 4.0g per 100g, their sodding website says 11g per 100g. WTAF?????? Can I sue them for scuppering my weight loss (I've been putting them in every stir fry!)

BIWI · 17/04/2012 15:54

Anything that's a legume-type-thingy (technical term) is best avoided as they are starchy. which is why they are so delicious

smoked mackerel/salmon/fish/bacon etc is all allowed, but as it is processed, and with all manner of additional ingredients, just avoid having it every day.

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 17/04/2012 15:54

Birds Eye Bastards!

ShirtyKnot · 17/04/2012 15:55

Cat...meet pigeons.

Hmm, I guess it was a good thing I asked as lemniscate now knows the horrible starchy truth.

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 17/04/2012 15:55

I have gone off smoked salmon. Sad

I think I have eaten it pretty much every day for about 6 weeks. I had some at the weekend and took one look at it and curled my lip. Shame.

BIWI · 17/04/2012 15:57

Variety, variety, variety!

Am I too late to join in? Started Friday 13th. First go at LC/Atkins but tried just about every other bloody diet under the sun. Trying to hold off weighing myself til Fri and hoping for good news. Damn SIL just poisoned me with pasta for lunch as I forgot to tell her but back on the wagon from now on.

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 17/04/2012 16:05

I know but it's NICE. Well, it was. I doubt I will ever eat it again. Grin

prettybird · 17/04/2012 16:22

I'm signing in too. I started yesterday though - had been reading the "old" thread and hadn't realised you'd moved on from there.

As of yesterday I was 12stone 11lb. My objective is to get into a red ball gown on 28th April and to do that I have to lose at least 8lb, to be anywhere the weight I was a year ago when I bought it last year's rugby club ball. BlushBlush

I'll copy and paste when I'm on a computer, if someone hasn't done it for me before then.

Realitygf · 17/04/2012 16:25

I was 11st 12lb on fri. Quite enjoying it so far as love cheese and have to follow GF diet anyway. Was feeling pretty smugly good until sabotage by SIL today. Managed to sit next to DH on sofa on Sat night while he chomped through a whole box of Matchmakers.

Creamtea1 · 17/04/2012 16:27

Omg I love matchmakers........,

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 17/04/2012 16:34

Right!

Spreadsheet created.

I await the first weigh in.

MrsNouveauRichards · 17/04/2012 16:38

AIBU to want to lick my toddler? He has chocolate spread on his face :o

Why don't I have a headache?

Realitygf · 17/04/2012 16:44

So do I!
