My SIL has been diagnosed as suffering from sleep apnea. She has been given a fairly chilling warning about what will happen if she doesn't lose weight and she is very shaken up. I've suggested that we all (my DB, DH and my Mum and Dad) go on a diet to support her - sort of do a team weight loss thing. I thought we could support one another via the internet, swap recipes, keep up morale etc.

Any hints, tips, ideas would be very welcome.

My fitness pal is brilliant and you can be friends on there.

2 things balia i. Wheat can cause sleep apnea See; Wheat Belly by William Davis.
2. The Paul Mckenna Way of eating completely re educates yr attitude to food i combine it with the Blood type Diet and have lost (and kept off) 3 stones. The thread on here is amazingly friendly and supportive and it's HOW children eat naturally until 'forced' to overeat. See You there? Smile

Thank you - have checked out the website, Monster, it looks perfect for us all to keep in touch.

ppeatfruit have popped over to the Paul Mckenna thread and it is a bit difficult to understand but I like the sound of it so far. Must get the book, clearly. Will pass on the book recommendation about wheat, too - the doc has said she has to sleep with some kind of ventilator thingy but was very clear that the weight was the main thing...

I also recommend myfitnesspal so you can all see what each other are eating, plus also me and my siblings all use whatsapp so we all support each other eg i can message them saying help me be strong am about to eat xxxx etc. We send each other photos of what we are eating! like big salad or veg stir fry.

We all have given up wheat / gluten (wheat belly) and basically follow a fairly paleo / dukan / blood type (we are all blood type o) diet - basically lots of meat, fish, eggs, veg, some fruit, some nuts and seeds and minimal grains or sugar. We are all now much healthier for it.

Paul Mckenna also good.

I just wanted to say how great and supportive you and your family sound! Do any of you live close together? If you do, maybe you could eat together once a week or fortnight? You could take it in turn to cook and each time whoever is cooking can try out a new healthy meal to help expand your repertoire. I did something similar with a group of girls but there was a fair amount of wine involved Good luck! Smile

Thanks NFW I guess we have all been through a lot and all needed help at some time or another. My Mum and Dad live close and spend a lot of time with us in the week, so all eating healthy can be a team game easily. DB and SIL live further away so hopefully my fitness pal will help. SIL says that one of the problems is that she and DB both love their food so they support one another in 'cheating' rather than sticking to the plan, so having us all working towards an agreed goal should help. (fingers crossed)
