My sister has lost loads of weight! And I want to too!

Saw my sister for the first time in ages, maybe a year or more and she has lost a good two or three stone. I want to loss weight too :( . I do quite a lot of exercise, swim three times a week, about a mile and a half, pilates and yoga, and two zumba classes, and I wear a pedometer, and aim for 10000 steps a day. So I feel that I am doing enough exercise. My diet is mainly fine apart from a love of chocolate. I need to give it up, don't I?!
I think my sister has probably lost weight, mainly through getting a dog six months ago, and maybe down to breaking up with her boyfriend. She has never been very interested in food really, only cigarettes and red bull!

I gave up chocolate last Easter and that was the start of weight loss journey. I went from 13 and a half stone to 8 stone 13. I didn't do any exercise as it makes me really hungry and I just wanted to concentrate on eating less.
I'd say ditch the chocolate , hell for 2 weeks then it got a lot easier. Buying lovely small clothes is way better than chocolate.
Good luck.

Thanks Fluffy1234. I really think it is the chocolate that's the problem. I agree with you the first two weeks are the worse. I have managed it before. Actually lost a stone and a half about two years ago, but gradually the chocolate has crept into my diet again. Do you still not eat chocolate at all? Or do you restrict yourself? Did you replace the chocolate with anything else?!

How much chocolate do you eat? If you are doing that amount if exercise (to enough extent that you are sweaty and breathless) then it must be your diet. What's an average day?

My aunt is v overweight and maintains she does lots if exercise and eats well, but... She strolls rather than walks fast and "only" has a bowl of muesli for breakfast, but it's a massive bowl!

Fluffy1234 · 27/03/2012 11:53

I haven't touched chocolate, cakes, biscuits or ice cream for 11 months. I didn't swap it for anything else as I wanted to get away from the whole eating as I watched t.v thing in the evenings. I don't miss it at all now. I have gone from having a whole box of chocs 6 nights a week to not having a sweet tooth at all now.
My treat us now a latte if I am out shopping etc.

Your sister can be your thinspiration.

Ephiny · 27/03/2012 12:07

It sounds like plenty of exercise, it does sound like it might be an issue with your diet. Even if you eat mostly 'healthy' foods, if your portion sizes are too big, you'll still struggle to lose weight. Or else you're really eating a lot of chocolate!

Bluebell99 · 27/03/2012 12:51

Yes, it's too much chocolate pure and simple. :( I had a bit of a twirl fixation for a while. I need not to eat chocolate every day. My latest obsession is Lindt bars with a touch of seasalt, (and I can happily eat a 100g in a day) Not every day Blush . They are bloody lovely though!! It has to stop now!!!! Yep, my sister can be my thinspiration ! Altho not through cigarettes and red bull!

Wow well done Fluffy1234. That's amazing to cut down so much! I have a friend who lost loads of weight last year and went from someone who ate whatever whenever and who now is very very strict with herself. For example, she wouldn't even accept a sample chocolate when in Hotel Chocolate shop. Maybe I need to be like that.
The health club I go to, includes a 3 pack of biscuits with your coffee and I now nearly always take them home for the kids to have as a snack.

Well sounds like giving up the chocolate would be a good place to start then :) Maybe you could have a bar of chocolate once a week (a normal sized one, not 100g!) as a treat, instead of it being an everyday habit - it's sometimes easier to stick to a 'diet' if you're not depriving yourself completely of your favourite thing?

Fluffy1234 · 27/03/2012 13:37

Thanks
I have gone completely cold turkey. If I have a cappuccino I ask them to not put the chocolate powder on!
Bit like a reformed alcoholic but I was a chocoholic... Bloody addictive stuff, sugar.

My zumba teacher is very fit and slim. She teaches 9 classes a week but has a very restricted diet. Never eats lunch, no fruit only vegetables, think she did the dukan diet for a while too. She also is a smoker. Thing is I really don't want to be that restricted, fruit is good, right?! And chocolate really is my favourite thing :(

Apart from the chocolate what else do you eat?

ALso quite enlightening to weigh food and count calories for a week to see.

Bluebell99 · 28/03/2012 12:04

Normally ready brek for breakfast. Homemade vegetable soup for lunch, or a sandwich, or beans on toast. or a jacket potato. Tea is more varied, salmon and vegetables, homemade chilli or bolesgnese with quorn, sometimes Marconi cheese with light cheese. I did use my fitness pal for a while so maybe should try that again.

Sounds like a lot of carbs and not much protein. I don't think chocolate is whole problem.

Fluffy1234 · 29/03/2012 08:44

I wish it was.
