I have been doing ww online since January and am not doing very well. i know it is my own fault but I am not inspired by it or paying £10 a month to key in and search for foods , I find a lot are not listed .
I feel I need a change( or a kick up the ... ! Blush and hopefully more on-line support, Going to meetings would be very difficult as my work pattern is erratic and DH is usually at work in the evenings. Also tbh I can't really afford it at the moment.
Is anyone using other websites successfully ? ( hopefully free ones if poss.)
thanks

I think Foodfocus is a free site. More towards calorie counting than points.

I'm also doing WW online, have done for 6 months, seem to lose 5lbs and then put it back on, time and time again!!!

Had a peek at Foodfocus today and am seriously considering it as a change of tactic Grin

OctopusSting · 26/03/2012 21:21

I used FoodFocus and lost 4 stone in about a year. I have recently reused it to get back to target when the Xmas pounds were showing Blush

I have managed to maintain for 3 years by going back to FF when i feel things starting to slide, or expand!

OctopusSting · 26/03/2012 21:23

Lots of people also rave about myfitnesspal, but i have never looked at it. As all my 'regular' home cooked recipes and other 'favourite' foods were input on FF i have stuck with that.

Good luck BTW Smile

colette · 26/03/2012 21:30

Thanks Lozislovely and OctopusSting . FF looks good ! My WW record is exactly like yours Lozislovely .
Well done OctopusSting , that is a very inspiring.

Now I have no excuse and will cancel ww

Wow Octopus, that is brilliant Grin

Going to investigate FF tomorrow (whilst at work!) and will probably make the leap.

Getting desperate now that I've considered Atkins, low carb, LL etc. but know deep down these aren't the long term answer!

I find with WW that I'm getting worried by lunchtime if I've used half my daily allowance and end up starving myself most of the day just so I can have a 'reasonable' dinner for fear of running out of points. The only thing I do like is the 'activity' points but I end up using them all cos I'm so flipping hungry!!!!!

Colette - cmon, we can do this Grin

colette · 26/03/2012 21:49

Great Lozislovely
I lose weight in the week and put it on at weekends . Keep posting and Iwill keep you on track Smile I should be at goal by 20 May according to their calculator!

Colette - I'm exactly the same - weekend = blow out for being good all week Wink

May 20th is my birthday so that is a fan target date. When I check the other day I think mine was end of June sometime. Need to lose minimum 1st 2lbs which doesn't sound a lot but given that I've been up and down 5lbs since I don't know when, it feels like a mountain!!!!

Lozislovely · 26/03/2012 21:52

That should be fab date, darn spell checker Grin

colette · 26/03/2012 21:53

OctopusSting do you want to be a mentor ? Grin You've done so well , i could do with some tips

OP posts:
colette · 26/03/2012 21:56

Wonderful- so May 20th is your first target and it will be a lot more than 5lb.
Better go and do ironing for tomorrow, will check out website tomorrow. I am so pleased - feels like a new start

Tuesday 27th is our Jan 1st then Grin will sign up tomorrow!!!

And I love the mentoring idea ( she says as she stuffs a couple of Ryvita with butter on in her mouth ready for a new start tomorrowWink)

OctopusSting · 27/03/2012 18:47

Hope you are all doing well today? Smile

LOL at mentoring. Sadly my way of dieting flies in the face of dieting wisdom Hmm. I have found i don't really need to eat much in the day, but love my evening meal, so have most of my calories then. However it seems to have worked so I am carrying on!

My top tips are:

  1. figure out what works for you, ie: when you really enjoy food (see above)
  2. eat whatever you like (just maybe not quite as much Grin)
  3. portion control
  4. food control is more important than exercise (takes a LOT of effort to burn off excess calories, so easier not to put them in)
  5. be honest and log EVERYTHING
  6. If when you hit a plateau, try something new eg: low carb for a few days/change exercise etc
  7. Pilates

Think that is it!!

colette · 27/03/2012 21:56

Thanks for the tips OctopusSting . So right about portion control, will think about no.1 and do no.5 from the start

I have not done too bad today but will weigh myself tomorrow as usually weigh on a Wednesday and then start properly ie. sign in with up to date weight . iyswim ( sounds like an excuse )

Must get in my Summer clothes Hmm

Oh god I'm in a quandary!!! On WW fruit is free but on FF I have to count it! I've been filling up on fruit to stop going hungry.

What to do what to do??? Did 30 mins on bike y'day and that gave me the cals I needed on FF but haven't had the chance to do any exercise today Sad getting so desperate I'm considering Atkins, even though I know I'll struggle from the off!

Any suggestions greatly appreciated Grin

OctopusSting · 28/03/2012 21:33

YOu get to a point where you see that everything you put in your mouth has a consequence and cannot therefore be free. I would say though in a few days your appetite should reduce, especially if you can up the protein/carb ratio.

On Atkins there would be no fruit at all Wink

colette · 29/03/2012 17:07

I think I will try and increase the protein to carbs ratio . As I find the more bread etc. I eat the more I seem to crave it..
Have been thinking about verything I stick in my mouth has a consequence too , this has helped - I stop trying to barter one thing off against the other. eg. I can eat a cake because I have been 'good' etc.

Lozislovely keep going stick to ww or ff - comparing will demotivate you
ps. OctopusSting - still think you are the mentor Wink

OP posts:
OctopusSting · 29/03/2012 18:15

I would also say (with my best mentor hat on Wink), don't try and 'fill up' on stuff. Eat a little of what you want when you want it, albeit you might have to reduce portion sizes later on in the day to compensate.

Also consider the 'fuel' your body needs to exist on, it is actually very little, but we are conditioned by the amount of, and easy access to, masses of food.

colette · 29/03/2012 21:48

thanks OctopusSting - better than going to ww meetings .
So true about how little we actually need compared to all the advertising , choice in the supermarket, portion size in restaurants that we have. it's the evening snacking that is weak point for me
