bloated stomach, is it bread?

Hi, I 40years old and have had 3 children by sections, I have never had a flat stomach. I do over eat and Iam about 2 stone over weight. I do look pregnant most of the time. If I cut down on food is it possible to get a toned flat stomach. Or is it bread I eat making it swell, could it be the yeast ? Or just too much food. As anyone cut out bread and seen a difference?

I have cut out wheat and hardly eat any other grains. Limited sugar, and limit fruit to 2 pieces a day. No dried fruit. No potatoes.

I have got my BMI down to 20.5, body fat to 18%.

Lots of core exercises.

And have flat stomach. 3 DC but no c-sections.

So I'd say fat stomach as:

  • you are overweight
  • you overeat
  • you eat the wrong foods
  • you might be predisposed to flabby tummy Sad

I cut out bread for a while and noticed a difference in less than a week. I felt less bloated and could hold my muscles better iykwim.

Definitely did not look so bloated!

i have cut down on bread, only eat wholemeal anyway which is good as i need is for a bit of protein (being veggie). I have no more than two slices a day, and some days just one. Occasionally i have no bread.

I have been on the myfitnessplan to learn about a balanced diet.

I've cut out bread and don't feel tired and bloated any more. I'm actually amazed at the difference it has made.

MarynotBeSarcastic · 21/03/2012 19:06

I've cut out wheat too, and people say how good I look, have I lost weight etc. I certainly have more energy!

lovechoc · 21/03/2012 19:21

I try not to eat bread too often but don't cut it out altogether. I substitute toast with porridge/cereal. If I do eat bread it's wholemeal only.

For lunch instead of a sandwich I'd have a jacket potato or an omelette. I have a fairly flattish stomach, it's toned because of the swimming that I do. Have been doing regular exercise now for 12 weeks so that will have a lot to do with it.

I don't look bloated as much, probably more to do with exercising though than what I'm eating. But as far as tiredness goes, I'm just as tired with or without bread in my diet! Makes no difference.

Every day I have a salad sandwich with various fillings, occasionally I have some soup, although I feel it is not enough if I dont have the bread. I could do with some options, to be healthy and cut the bread. Jacket potatoes, beans, tuna salad. Thats as far as I can get, I think it is really hard to cut the lunch time sandwich.
Lovechoc, I have been doing aqua aerobics for the last 4 weeks. For the first time in my life I feel a flat stomach may be possible, because of how it feels when I get out of the water. I think the aqua is the best exercise I have ever done. Its so easy, but you know it is working.

I feel a lot better since I cut out wheat. I used to be constantly bloated and gassy and that's gone and I can tell if I've eaten something that has even a small amount of wheat in it. Something like 20% of people are wheat intolerant so it's well worth trying wheat free for a couple of weeks to see if you feel better.

purple15 · 22/03/2012 12:26

queenstromba, what do you eat instead? I think because all my life I have had sandwichs, I really need some help?

I've cut yeast, if I eat it I bloat and look pregnant. Yeast is hidden in loads and loads of stuff. I not eat crackers and dips for lunch corn thins etc not nearly as nice as a lovely sarnie but needs must.

QueenStromba · 22/03/2012 13:49

Lunch and dinner are pretty interchangeable for me. I always make extra when I cook so I've got a freezer full of meals ready to put in the microwave. I'm low carbing so I've not had to think about replacing the wheat with anything other than vegetables. You should check out the low carb diet thread - there are lots of meal ideas and recipes on there which would be suitable for wheat free.

I eat the Dietary Specials (DS) brown ciabatta rolls as I don't like the texture of most of the GF breads. Best crisped up in the oven first (even if you're going to use them for cold sandwiches). Also cut them in half for toast, or for garlic bread. Or a potato salad instead of bread. Or the GF pasta is pretty good!
