Advice on healthiest, most effective way to lose 2 stone

Hi all

I have been struggling with my weight for a few years - I was always between 10st 6lb and 11st 7lb, and I always managed to keep to that, but a few years ago (when I met DP and became "settled") my weight crept up to 12st, and since then it has just kept going. It went right up to 14st 11lb at one point, but since then I have managed to lose a stone.

I haven't really changed what I eat that much, I eat the right things, but I do supplement them with a fair bit of junk Blush

I've been suffering a fair bit with health ishoos, and I'm sure that they are down to a combination of stress and being overweight.

My problem is that I find it hard to stick at something - my immune system seems to be low as I frequently seem to get viruses. As soon as I start to feel ill, I fall off the bandwagon and then it is doubly hard to get back on IYSWIM.

Can anyone advise me of a healthy eating plan/exercise regime that you have used and has worked?

I have been to GP and had all manner of blood tests etc and all ok - the only thing that came up was low vitamin D levels, so ideally exercising outside would be beneficial. I feel really really unfit so running is a no-no at the moment but ideally I would like to work towards it.

The healthiest diet IMO is John Briffa's escape the diet trap diet.

I have read so many books, some (dukan) seem too focused on weight loss not health. re: bandwagon I like Paul Mckenna for will power.

Just posted on another thread about weight loss! But I think you need to look at common sense really. You know that you are eating junk food at time so cut it out as much as you can but don't deprive yourself. Saturday night I have nice crisps and a small piece of chocolate (curly wurly!)You also will have a good idea of what is healthy but do look at portion size- you can eat lots of "healthy" food but if you eat a huge amount (like I used too( you are not going to lose weight. I have lost 3 stone so far and it has mostly been a low fat diet. If it helps I have listed below what I eat o an average day.
Breakfast: porridge (skimmed milk) with fruit or cereal eg shreddies or fruit and yogurt.

Lunch: pitta bread or crackers or crispbreads with salad that will have either thin ham, cottage cheese, chicken breast or tuna (in spring water) and a yogurt

Dinner: stir fry or curry made with quorn pieces, fish and rice, or jacket potato.

pudding- sugar free jelly, banana and low fat custard, mini meringue and sugar free dream topping and fruit.

Snacks. low fat crisps (french fries etc), yogurt, fruit, 3 sticks of liquorice two jaffa cakes (two of these a day on average between lunch and dinner and then after dinner.)

I started my exercise by walking either to or home from work, going to Zumba and a swim (4 lots of exercise a week minimum) but think your motto needs to be "move more that you did before".

It helps to have a long term aim, my long term was to be able to be re admitted to fertility clinic (this has happened) but also next dress size etc. Oh! And learn to treat yourself with something other than food. That was my big issue. I buy myself a new magazine/book, some nice bubble bath, or a nice cordial with fizzy water! (I have simple taste haha!)

Sorry for waffling on so much and I hope that helps.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips - I will look into that John Briffa diet.

I've got the Paul McKenna app on my phone but haven't used it yet!

waitingtobeamummy - Thanks for the info - it's really helpful. The only thing for me is that your diet would be too high in sugar and sweet stuff for me I think - it's a good starting point though.

I like the idea of a nice cordial with fizzy water - especially in the summer!
