Poached egg on toast.

Fruit in low fat yoghurt.

Grilled bacon sandwich

Porridge with fruit.

Porridge.
I have it every day, fills me up til lunch, even then I only need a light one.
Good for you and slow release energy.

I have 2 poached eggs on 1 slice of toast, or beans on toast, or a banana sliced into natural yoghurt. All three of these keep me full until lunch. I usually have homemade soup for lunch (without bread) and whatever dinner the family is having. I find that I hardly ever want to snack between meals, or in the evening. I'm sure the big breakfasts are what have helped me lose weight.

I usually have 2 weetabix with skimmed milk, tea and some fruit. Mainly because it's quick and while I could see myself poaching an egg I couldn't see myself doing the washing up that early in the day!

Protein. I have 2 egg omelette, plus 100g natural yoghurt to which i add oatbran (20g) and ground linseeds (10g). research apparently shows that those eating a protein breakfast lose more weight than those eating carbs.

anniewoo · 19/03/2012 20:56

I have porridge everyday too at 7.30 but i am starving by 10.30!!! how much porridge?

I buy the Oatsosimple sachets.

Are you really hungry or is it habit?
Try having a large glass of water when you feel hungry, you may just be thirsty.

wildstrawberryplace · 19/03/2012 21:33

FOD is right - protein is the answer, and within 30-60 mins of waking too. You need about 20-30g depending on your weight.

foreverondiet · 19/03/2012 22:24

My breakfast is 284 calories, roughly the same as 50g oats and 200ml skimmed milk. I am full until around 12 noon, wait until 12.30 to eat. I aim for 20g protein for breakfast.

How much porridge (and milk) are you eating?

squareheadcut · 19/03/2012 22:40

yes porridge is great for me too and sometimes i have branflakes

squareheadcut · 19/03/2012 22:41

i also in summer have porridge oats with cold milk and chopped prunes on top - refreshing and filling and nice, i just have a small bowl of it

Cheddars · 19/03/2012 22:42

How about banana mixed with yoghurt?

lemniscate · 21/03/2012 07:57

I'm echoing the protein theme. For the past fortnight I've been eating a 2 egg omelette with spinach, mushroom, cheese, ham depending on what's in the fridge. I've only needed a pre-lunch snack 3 times since whereas porridge always had me reaching for the biscuit barrel by 10.30. Plus I get a sneaky start on my veg intake too!

I used to have baked beans on granary toast when i was on weightwatchers a long time ago and that worked really well too.

sparklesandwine · 21/03/2012 08:20

I'm a veggie who doesn't drink milk or eat eggs do I find breakfast a real struggle!

I try to have a bowl of fruit, but i find that doesn't fill me up! If I have time I'll do a couple of veggie sausages or veggie bacon with chopped tomatoes, that fills me up until lunch and I don't snack in between I agree the protein helps Smile

Something with protein, carbs and fat. And some fruit. Current favourites include:

Scrambled egg with tomato mixed in on half a slice of rye bread with half a grapefruit for pudding

Porridge with milk and berries and a bit I yoghurt or ham for protein

Greek yoghurt, berries and a bit of cereal thrown in to bulk it up.
