Which diet.... (breast feeding)

Ladies

I'm just about to have my second baby and have a load of weight to lose (never lost the weight from first baby). If i lose about 1.5 stone post birth (baby, placenta, water etc) then I will have about 2.5 stone more to go - eeeek!

I plan on breast feeding so know I need to be careful not to eat too little or do anything too extreme BUT I really want to shift the weight and if I don't start post baby then I will get into post-pregnancy bad habits (like last time!).

What diets do you recommend?

I have previously done WW (old points) with good results, but found staying motivated hard.

Any thoughts / suggestions welcome....

Thanks

In the v early days I just followed a loose GI diet (i.e. lean protein, wholegrains, plenty of fruit & veg). No diet as such - needed my energy for BF & general survival Grin

Now, 6 months later, I've started weight watchers which seems to be working. Would have started around 3 or 4 month mark, but we were moving at time. Wouldn't have started much earlier than that tbh - too tired & hungry!

Thanks. If I'm very honest with myself cutting out the 'crap' would be a good place to start! I don't seem to have a setting in between "full on diet" and "junk food overload".

I think I will aim for no (or minimal!) chocolate, crisps, cake etc for the first six weeks and see where that gets me. The proper "diet" can start after that.... Hmmmm. I should probably start the no junk now. No reason not to Sad

Paul McKenna. Healthy, yet no restrictions like 'dieting' and you do really lose weight.

Slimming World. You get additional 'healthy extras' (more portions of things like bread / milk / cheese / cereal) when you are breastfeeding. I've been breastfeeding for 4 months and started slimming world 2 months ago.. (allowed myself some time to rest / build my strength up with cake and biscuits post birth / in early breastfeeding days)

I'm amazed that I have lost 16lb in 2 months and the only thing I can say I've really missed is butter! I find SW interesting and fairly easy to follow in a slightly different to WW but not too challenging way IYSWIM

Still allowed biscuits - allbeit smaller amounts of Smile
I've also done lots of walking with the pram - great time of year!
Have a google & good luck with the birth / breastfeeding / weightloss x

Most importantly just dont buy any crap, then its never in the house. Have a walk every day.

Why do a 'diet' that allows you to eat things that you feel are 'naughty?' Paul McKenna says that if you want it, as long as it's true hunger then you can have it!
Come to our thread and be supported, be healthy and eat the things you actually like to eat instead of depriving yourself! so if you want chocolate, you really can have it and still lose weight.

Dawneywoo, is there a sw app do you know ? And if so can you program in that you are bf so that it makes the allowance?
My dd is 11 weeks and the "you will lose weight just by breastfeeding" doesn't seem to be working for me. I have 3 stones to lose.
