Has anyone heard of or tried vibration plates? For weight loss and muscle strengthening. Can't believe they work but am seeing them advertised all over the place.

Yes, I bought a power plate about 4 years ago and have used it a few times. It's great and you can really feel your muscles tensing - especially in fat burning mode!

There are some great exercises/positions you can do on it to make it more effective too.

bonnieslilsister · 17/03/2012 21:33

Can I ask why you have only used it a few times loopy?

Yep - it's because at our last house, it was in storage and here, it's on the third floor and in a room that had a fly problem but now it's fine so will start using again. It is good and I got it from QVC. They were selling them again recently and whilst it's not as fabbie as some of the moer high tec expensive ones, it does the job and does feel great afterwards. I just need to use it more often!

I wouldn't buy one but I use it at the gym sometimes. They do help because the vibration challenges your core making you work way harder during the exercise.
But I would only use one during a mixed workout. They make your ears buzz and make my nose itch. You can start to feel a bit odd after too long. Well I do. I tend to do about five minutes towards the end of a session. They are great to use for streching.

loopydoo · 17/03/2012 22:38

Yes - my teeth chatter when I use mine! And the reason I first gave up was because my two big toes went dead - for weeks!

Pagwatch · 17/03/2012 22:46

Good grief Loopy. That must have been odd!

After a few times I figured what I can do comfortably. Exercises that involve bending over are too weird. Simple squats are amazing though. I just have to try not to think about what my arse mystery look like as people walk past Grin

downtroddenabby · 17/03/2012 22:49

My MIL has one. It's gathering dust.

And she had high hopes for it. I'll try and find out why she fell out of love with it.

foreverondiet · 18/03/2012 14:31

There is one in the gym. I use it 3x a week but wouldn't pay extra for it. And only do for 2 x 60 sec as part of mixed workout. At home think squats lunges and smallt dumbell weights better!

rosie39forever · 18/03/2012 14:50

I wouln't buy one as the cheaper ones are pretty useless, if you can find a gym that does power plate classes with a qualified instructor then it's well worth it. I do 3 half hour sessions a week (as well as cardio and weight training) and it's made a massive difference, I'm stronger, more toned and have a lot less cellulite so would really recommend it.

JuliaScurr · 18/03/2012 14:55

yy rosie I use it under instruction to counteract the effects of MS - quite effective, one of the best things so far

rosie39forever · 18/03/2012 15:00

Thats excellent Julia, I know quite a few people with auto immune disorders and arthritis who are getting a lot of pain relief and increased mobility from the power plate.

JuliaScurr · 18/03/2012 16:35

I think any effect of exercise are speeded up

bonnieslilsister · 18/03/2012 20:19

Thanks everyone, I think I will try it.
