I'm starting to hate exercise

Ok, I'm doing the shred but the I am seriously struggling with time, I got the boys most of the time (apart from when DS1 is in school), hubby goes off to do his biking at weekend and evenings are impossible by the time they are in bed. Generally I'm run off my feet trying to run the business, house and children. And hubby to have a go at me when he hardly helps me out!

So in essence I'm only doing the shred once a week plus a swim (20 lengths) but I'm not improving, nor losing weight (not surprising). I dont feel as though I'm improving and the whole exercise thing is knackering, I struggle with the shred, after a few mins I'm out of breath, sweating and finding it impossible.

I'm starting to hate exercise, its no fun, I feel so heavy (2stone over), sweating, now sat here exhausted. I am no longer motivated. Perhaps a different DVD would help?

The shred is something you have to do every day for it to work, and I suspect that the fact you are not losing weight is partly what is demoralising you. I would switch to a different DVD - make one of the dance ones with 10 minute sequences?

I think you can burn off lots of calorie by thinking about being active all day. Walk around when you're on the phone, walk rather that take the car, walk faster - you get the idea.... you might find it fits with your hectic lifestyle. Most weight will be lost through calorie reduction anyway.

bacon it really sounds like this is a relationship ishoo rather than a fitness one Sad

The Shred will work but you do need to find 20minutes a day where YOU are your number one priority. Can you try to do 20 mins after school drop off and talk DH into giving you the time first thing on the weekend days before he does whatever he wants to do all day?

Weight loss is mainly about eating less, so exercising isn't really going to make that much difference, even with the shred every day.

To improve at the shred, would have to do at least 3-4 times a week - you need to get into a routine with it ie I do at 10pm and don't eat after 9pm. Or you might decide to not both and look at your diet instead. I like what I call sneaky exercise, - a few press ups here, a few squats there as well.

sorry your OH sounds to be so unsupportive. Agree with the other ladies - that exercise needs to go with watching what you eat to lose weight. I also found the shred uncomfortable and plain off putting. Do you think if you did easier dvds that you would be more motivated to exercise more often?

dinkystinkyandveryverybored · 16/03/2012 15:25

Right - your husband gets time to bike ride; you should have time to exercise/do whatever you want to. Figure out how long he goes for a ride for - that is the amount of time you have to exercise. Get him to deal with kids in the morning for 25 minutes so you can shred while he does their breakfast - you need to do at least 4 times a week. And sneak in exercise where you can - walk everywhere, carry shopping home instead of taking car etc.

Don't beat yourself up with the exercising. Like the others have said the best way to lose weight is to eat less. I lost just over 4 and half stone and did no exercise at all. However I would recommend Davina Macalls workout DVDs but would concentrate on changing any bad eating habits because I think that would be the most effective way to lose weight.

Thanks, I did a good swim this morning as DS2 in nursery. My diet is good and have never been a binge/bad eater. We eat excellent food and not one for snacking. We've stopped alcohol so that is improving our energy. I would assume my metabolism is rubbish and portion sizes too large with being inactive over 15 years!

Yes, my OH is selfish with his time - he'll go off biking 4 hours at weekend. But still there is no way on earth when you are running a business from home you can find the time every day - time you prep, do the exercise, shower and hair it becomes 1-2 hrs. There are relationship issues with him always doing what he wants to do and I am struggling with it all.

Just saw this thread and wanted to write. I joined a bootcamp thing 7 weeks ago. First session I seriously thought I was going to have to not go back again I felt awful. It is harder for me because of my weight - I am tall and fairly toned but a hefty weight! Doing tricep dips and being 5 stone heavier than others is agony sometimes!
I carried on. Weight? I haven't lost but inches have fallen off and I feel so much better. I look forward to every session even though I am still pouring with sweat (but so are the fit ones) Wink
Try another DVD or something different but it does get easier
