I've lost 10lb! I need help...

So, after my last thread where I said I was 5ft9in, size 18 and 18st13lb I joined a gym. I wasn't 18st13lb. I was 19st3lb! Two weeks later and I've lost 10lb through exercise alone.

Now, I know it's mainly water weight which is where you come in. I exercise on the cross trainer for 25 minutes, power walk for 15 minutes and cycle for 15 minutes six/seven days a week plus 10 minutes of weight training and an hour of kettlebell class once a week. My exercise is fine (I think?) I need help with my diet.

What are cheap, filling meals that I can eat a decent portion of while giving me all the good stuff, a little bad stuff and will fit under 1600 calories a day? I drink a litre or two of water daily and don't eat sweets, chocolate, cakes, biscuits or crisps.

Well done! We have a losing weight because we need to and want to thread if you fancy joining us?

Do you like Quorn? Filling and so cal light. I have a peppered Quorn steak, a couple of potatoes and loads of vegetables and its something like 300cals.
Also jacket potatoes with red onion and beans.
Soup - pots of fresh soup tend to be 300 to 400 cals for a huge pot, I have one as a meal.
Eggs good for breakfast, I soft boil then scoop it put onto a slice of toast.
Finally, I come home from work quite late mn wednesdays. I've started popping in at supermarket and treating myself to a nice wrap, some sushi or these yummy little spring rolls waitrose do. Sushi and rolls incredibly low cal but feel like a treat. Wrap wouldn't be more than 400cal which is low for an evening meal

Thanks. All great ideas. I often buy the big pots of soup (carrot and corriander for 300 calories). I never seem to feel 'full'. Is this just a case of retraining my brain or do I really need to eat more?

I'll come on over :)

Tbh I am fairly often hungry but aagree its about retraining the brain. Carrot and coriandr doesn't sound filling though, how about minestrone or something with beans or lentils. I tend to be quite strict during the week and accept I will be hungry but ease off at the weekend, but not go mad.

alessthandomesticgoddess · 12/03/2012 10:02

I haven't had any major slips yet (three or four advent calendar sized chocolates) so I think I'm doing well but the hunger!

Carrot and coriander isn't filling but with a chunk of brown bread it's not too bad. I can't find minestrone in the pots but I have some Heinz minestrone soup. Is that healthy or is packed with fat and salt?

I find omelettes really filling. I add whatever is in the fridge such as mushrooms or ham and peppers. I buy the 'basic' brand at Sainsburys so quite a cheap meal.

StealthPolarBear · 12/03/2012 10:36

Sainsburys so fresh minestrone soup.
I find I have drastically cut down on bread I used to eat loads of bread and pasta.

alessthandomesticgoddess · 12/03/2012 11:38

I usually eat an omelette with a side salad for dinner as it usually fills me up, especially if I have a yogurt for dessert.

I'll look into Sainsbury's. I rarely shop there but it may be worth picking up healthy bits there. Is the Basics range decent? I hate Asda Value :(

I only meant basic eggs I tend to get other makes of ham when it is on offer.

StealthPolarBear · 12/03/2012 11:58

Lidl do free range eggs at something like 85p for 6

foreverondiet · 12/03/2012 12:21

Cheap basics:

Value cottage cheese and natural yoghurt.
Tinned fish (esp on offer) tuna, sardines, makeral
Frozen fish eg coley haddock
Tins chopped tomatoes
Value eggs
Soup made with dried pulses, they are so cheap!

Quorn mini savoury eggs are my saviour. but i am a veggie so you might not like the fake sausage.

eggs in general.

low fat red pepper humous on ryvitas.

less carbs, as in i am now properly weighing out rice, pasta and pots. quite amazing how many of these i could easily put away! but after a first few difficult weeks of retraining my eyeballs, i am getting fuller on less.

StealthPolarBear · 13/03/2012 16:58

Hummus on ryvita is inspired. Getting sick of Philadelphia but couldn't think what to replace it with other than cheddar and pickled onions... Mmmm but not low calorie!

piratecat · 13/03/2012 19:38

it is very tasty!!
