Getting slim for lent

rosalux · 21/02/2012 21:00

I've recently finished JM's 30 Day Shred, and while I feel much fitter my eating habits remain appalling and I've not lost any weight. Having now stopped bf I have no excuse for carb scoffing so I am going to give up alcohol and processed foods for lent in the hope that this will kick start a more permanent change for the better in my eating habits. Anyone else using lent as a second NYD?

I desperately want to, but dont really know what to do Sad am stuck in a weight loss rut, have been doing 30DS and 6w6p 3 days a week, eating less than 1200 cals a day, and STILL not shifting any weight or feeling fitter.
Have already quit smoking and drinking, but dont seem to be able to get skinny!

DS is nearly 2 so I am just being lazy!

Maybe you're actually not eating enough? I'm not sure I could survive on 1200 cals a day, even without all the exercise you're doing. Why not up it a bit to 1400/1500 for a few days with larger portions/extra (good) fats?

I've cut out sugar for lent (easier to explain and processed food is almost always full of it) and started NMTZ this morning; always feel better when I do some exercise. I'm going to track my cals for a few days before trying to cut down as I think I'm in denial about how much I actually eat!

Yes I have stated that for lent I am abstaining and fasting.

In reality this means I have restarted my Dukan diet using Lent to kickstart it.

I joined slimming world today. I am giving up alcohol for lent too so by Easter I'm hoping a few pounds will have disappeared!!!

serotoninbutterfly · 23/02/2012 06:47

It's the suggested amount of calories from myfitnesspal app, but I think I really need to cut down on sat fat, so I m going to try and do 1200 cals and 5g sat fat a day instead, see if that helps. To be honest, I think I am being a bit lazy with the working out, and I need to do something every day Blush
Either that or start smoking again Sad

Hello, can I join in? I have decided to revisit a diet I did a couple of years ago for lent, to see see if i can shed a few pounds and feel a bit more energetic. I've been eating rather too much cake and crap lately. I weighed myself today, and while I was suprised that I didn't weigh quite as much as i thought I did, I still need to lose over a stone (obviously not going to happen in the next 40 days.)

serotoninbutterfly NO NO NO! Do NOT cut down on fat. You need some fat in your diet, 5g a day dangerously low. Increase protein and cut down on carbs.

I aim for 120g of protein a day - 1g for every pound of target body weight.
Fat - around 35g - the fat comes from oily fish, and red meat (only a couple of times a week), poultry and egg yolks, need some fat in your diet.

Carbs on the other hand you don't need. In my weight loss phase would aim for around 50g-70g a day, from fat free dairy and veg. No fruit, no grains, no starchy veg, you don't need. Add a little more carbs perhaps if lots of exercise (not 30 day shred, thinking more 10km run!) - I do 5km in gym and don't need to add.

And exercise 5-6 times a week. If i don't do gym or RI30 or walk to school to get DC I do weights in front of TV....

Given up sweets and chocolate- soo hard

Hi, i'd like to join. I reckon 6 weeks is a good period of time to reset bad habits. For personal reasons the past few weeks weeks have been hard and i've gone back to eating too many sweet stodgy foods, consequently am feeling flabby and depressed about my body which was already at its highest point when i put on another 2-3 pounds.
I'd like to lose 1 stone but i prefer the slow and steady approach . I will lose 1-2 pounds a week (or see a fat % change on my scales) and I'll be happy with that. I have an additional incentive, I'm TTC so want to restart a healthy diet and up my exercise levels a bit.
I won't be following a particular diet, just trying to stick to eating healthy foods, (not too big portions) at mealtimes , reduce my bread intake , and cutting out all unhealthy snacks. I'd like to have no snacks at all as its how i've lost weight in the past but if i'm starving then a healthy one (fruit, raw veg, low fat yogurt, small portion nuts, ultra low fat cottage cheese) is ok.
Exercise will be walking and I've got a new DVD to try- Yogalates- dynamic weight loss and i will do that 3 times a week . I'll start run/walking in the park twice a week also.
Good luck to all!

p.s i know some fat is good, olive oil is essential on my salads but i also take DHA tablets to help with fertility, oh and i love salmon, yum!
