Hi all. My lo is 16 weeks old and I have a. Stone and a half to lose to get back to pre-preg weight. I have been using my fitness pal but I don't know how many calories I need. For my weight and height it only gives me 1200 calories, then how many do I need to add for ebf?

Thanks!

EBF around 500 cals a day, add it in like an exercise.

However, IME better to wait until no longer EBF (after after 26 weeks when food is introduced) as don't have to worry about impact of diet on milk supply - I found the 16-26 week the hardest in terms of EBF as baby bigger and hungrier than as tiny newborn.

Thank you!

Somehow 1700 calories does not seek enough.

1700 calories doesn't seem like much, but that's because you're adding the bf calories to 1200! 1200 calories is not much at all.

For what it's worth, restricting your calories won't affect your mill supply or the quality of the milk, unless you're clinically malnourished (in which case please eat more than 1200 calories!).

Yes, mfp only wants to give me 1200 Sad

I gave up and signed up with ww online instead.

I'm in the same situation as you Jnice. DD is 17 weeks. I signed up with WW 5 weeks ago and have lost 10lb so far. It's slowing now which is probably for the best as I read it's advisable not to lose more than 1.5lb a week while breastfeeding due to toxins being released from fat stores going into your milk Kelly mom's dieting while breastfeeding advice. This also suggests min cals of 1500-1800 while breastfeeding and ideally towards the top of that range.

Good luck!

Thanks eagle!

Good luck with it. I am happy to take it slow, 1lb a week will be fine. After losing half the weight I have started gaining - being tired makes chocolate biscuits irresistible! Just want to lose the weight slowly and sensibly.

I hear you on feeling tired and it hitting the willpower. I haven't had a good week this week at all. Had friends over and ate more than I should but hey ho will dust self off and get back on track.

I didn't lose by baby weight from DS who is nearly 3 because I ws just too worn out to focus which is why I just ended up gaining even more from this last pregnancy. Am taking it seriously this time and thank goodness DD is a better sleeper than DS was.

I have to say after 24 hrs its going well - k know it's early days. But no matter how many points I've had I can always have an apple or banana - in sure it wasn't that way last time I did WW. Anyway, that helps me steer clear of the biccies Grin
