Not sure why I am going to gain about getting this out on here but here goes

Im 40 in 5mths - and for about 20years Ive struggled with my weight - im not massive, I hold it all quite evenly but at 5.7 and 13.4..I am uncomfortable

I have tried Slimming World for years and years - but I cheat

Tried Weight Watchers and just felt hungry all the time and never made normal dinners

I have a gym membership - maybe will swim once a week - they are earning a bundle out of me

I am forever thinking tomorrow I will change - but it never ever happens

I need a kick up the arse - but I have nooo willpower

Im sure Im more grumpy for being overweight

Sigh - feel better already for getting that out

I used to be a complete chocoholic. I went from having a whole box of roses or equivalent pretty much every evening to not even going near the stuff for 9 months.
I took control and just decided it was my hand putting the food into my mouth and I only I could stop myself. It was hell for 2 weeks sometimes I made myself go to bed early rather than eat but then it got a lot easier. For 3 months i ate normal meals but no chocs, cakes, crisps etc and lost a stone. Then I cut portion size and most carbs which I found quite easy as got the cravings out of my system and then lost another 3 stone 4 pounds. So went from 13 and a half stone to 9 stone 3 in 8 months.
I would say deal with the biggest weakness first , your energy drinks and chocolate and see how you go from there. Reward yourself with non food treats such as magazines, bubble bath candles or whatever you are into. That way you start getting pleasure from things that are not food.
Good luck.

I simply won't stop tea and coffee for anything. I just cut my sugar down.

Chastittybeltup - '...but you are doing it backwards. Breakfast like a King, lunch like a prince and supper like a pauper...or something...' - I don't think that is true actually. I met with an NHS registered dietician recently who said that it doesn't make that much difference when you eat your meals.

BettyBedlam · 07/02/2012 14:58

Why are you trying to give up hot drinks? That sounds hellish in this weather.

OP, I'm not sure the 'packet of rocket', as one poster eats, would totally do it for me if I was in one of my 'I need something NICE now' moods. I find it helps to find something I like, that is really yummy, but that takes ages to eat. So, a roll of small toffees, a curly wurly, hot chocolate with skimmed milk etc etc do it for me as I feel like I have had something yummy because I have had to do so much chewing/sipping to get the food into me. Obviously something too sugary starts the sugar spike cycle, but I can usually manage the above without that happening.

Pah, mere heat won't cause me to sip, Ms Bedlam, I can scarf down a hot chocolate/ tea/ water just out of the kettle, as if it were a pint and I were a thirsty alcoholic. Which I sort of am, but not with alcohol, and not necessarily thirsty. I'm not even trying to give up, just to go for a day without compulsively scalding my oesophagus with tea, etc.
