What exercise would you recommend for toning wobbly legs and bum? These have always been my problem area. Upper body is not bad, but the lower part really lets me down!

Lots of walking/running?

yellowparrot · 19/01/2012 14:09

I and terrible at running (flat feet)! Do yo think cycling would be good with a few up hills thrown in?

yes, cycling would be good.

lovechoc · 19/01/2012 14:11

exercise bike. I'm already noticing a difference after two weeks!

QuietOhSoQuiet · 19/01/2012 14:11

anyone can run :o they do make specialist shoes for runners with flat feet, just go to running shop and ask

but yes if you want really toned legs and bottom running or power walking with hills thrown in do a brilliant job

Thank you. I am determined to get toned legs this year. I love cycling and live near lots of good routes. We have a cross trainer in the garage that hasn't been used for ages. This does a hill sort of programme. Do you think that would be good?

Everything helps! And every time you go up stairs (any stairs!) go up two at a time. Simple and very effective for legs and bum.

lovesadirtylie · 19/01/2012 16:43

resistance exercises such squats, lunges, leg press are very good for improving muscle tone

foreverondiet · 19/01/2012 20:26

I agree squats and lunges, leg press and running BUT I found that to get the excess fat off my legs (thighs) I had to get my weight right down by dieting - now BMI around 21 and legs much slimmer and toned.

lovechoc · 21/01/2012 11:49

jogging/running is sore on your joints though, so not suitable for everyone.

lovesadirtylie · 21/01/2012 12:42

true, but you can get similar benefits from using the cross trainer of the bikes in the gym

beatenbyayellowteacup · 28/01/2012 20:20

Squats and lunges. Walking lunges are great. After a few weeks start to add some weights to both. Also do a "hold" squat against a wall for a minute.

And one legged squats are great for your bum.

I'm doing couch to 5k and the difference to my legs after a short time is amaaaaaazing.

Hello

I know this is an old thread but was about to ask the same question. I have lost a stone recently and have always had and still have fat wobbly legs. I have quite big thighs too.

I have dodgy knees that sometimes really hurt going up and down stairs and occasionally feel like they bend too far back. I find squats and lunges really hard work, especially as they really aggravate my knees.

Are there any other exercises I can do, without any expensive gym equip. or gym visits that would help? I've tried visiting a running shop and got trainers to support my arch that I damamged many years ago doing excercise classes but these haven't really helped.

Many Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I have a similar affliction so do sympathise .. I have found running the best thing for me and also breast stroke swimming as it works the thighs .. sadly all the advice would indicate squats and lunges would be the best but I find them very hard as well..

Another poster foreveronadiet, did once post that she found her thighs only reduced once she got her BMI down to I think about 21 so that is my goal now -to lose more weight - sadly the interim is making me very pear shaped but not sure what else I can do to get rid of the buggers!
