Hay diet... Do you know the name of book/author?

When I met my other half he was an informal follower of this approach to eating. Over time I've also started eating like this and it seems to be suiting me.

My mum was over for Xmas and it turns out she used to do this and had a great book that both gave the details of how to do it and some of the history/science behind it. She can't find the book or remember the title and author.

So I'm thinking I bet there's someone on mumsnet that will be able to help so that I can find a copy on eBay or amazon!
Thanks in advance...

Put 'the hay diet' into search on amazon and the books come up

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 12/01/2012 10:44

Thanks
I've been doing on a phone screen and its really hard to scroll through so would be a narrower search and get better result if i knew the author of that original book! I'll try properly when I am on a pc - just thought there might be someone online that knew off the top of their head!

Dr Hay or William Hay
I followed his book a few years ago, it worked very well for losing weight.

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 12/01/2012 12:16

Doh! Didn't realise the name of the diet would be the author.
It could be the book linked to above - I think this maybe a case where a visit to a physical bookstore is in order so I can take a flick through and see if its suitable.

I've heard that its good for losing weight if you're overweight, but equally if you are underweight it will help you put weight on - i.e. that it helps you get to the 'right' weight. I haven't seen a major impact on my weight while eating like this - but I find its helped with my digestion and bowel movements (although I do seem to fart a bit more - a small price for a more comfortable tummy and bowel!)

Thanks everyone for your help...

Lol, did you think it involved eating hay?!

This thread has reminded me how good I felt on the hay diet. Might try it again.

ppeatfruit · 12/01/2012 16:09

The Hay diet is also known as the natural hygiene diet or Fit for Life and a lot of books about healthy eating use it. I've followed it for years and would thoroughly recommend it for loss of weight and health obviously.

Not sure if this will help or if you have an iPhone/iPad but I downloaded a free kindle book on this. I can find you the name if need be.

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 13/01/2012 10:04

alfiemama - I hadn't thought of that and I have got an iPhone... don't worry if its a hassle - I've got a day coming up when I need to load some new apps and books onto my phone and I will look out for it...

It's no bother at all. I'm half way through reading it.

It's called Complete Food Combining by Peter Thomson. I'm pretty sure it was free.

ppeatfruit · 13/01/2012 13:52

How's it going alfiemama? Grin

alfiemama · 16/01/2012 09:42

Sorry ppea just seen this.

Not great really. I've been diagnosed now with fibromyalgia hence the bad ibsSad so I've been following Zoe harcombe basically no wheat or gluten. No dairy except low far natural yoghurt. No caffeine or choc or and no alcohol. So just eating meat, berries, veg and low fat natural yoghurt.
Pain wise not too bad. Ibs defo better but weigh the same argggghhhh. What do I have to do chop something offGrin

This is typical day
4 strawberries with 100g nat yog

Lunch
2 boiled eggs and salad no dressing

Tea
Chicken or other meat and veg

Supper
Natural yoghurt maybe strawberries

I drink sparkling water and decaf coffee and green tea.

Struggling to exercise with the fibro pains.

Anything you can see ppea[wink?] I think it all complies with blood diet although not looked strawberries.

Maybe I'm doomedSad

Sorry for spelling and grammar on phoneGrin

How are you doing?

alfiemama · 16/01/2012 10:08

Oops sorry for hijackBlush

But if anyone else can see any reason why please let me knowWink

ppeatfruit · 16/01/2012 11:20

If you're an O type it should be okay although coffee and strawbs not brill, but if you're an A type it will make you ill (sorry I can't remember!).

ppeatfruit · 16/01/2012 11:31

I'm fine thanks Smile

alfiemama · 16/01/2012 11:44

Hi ppea, I am an A. I have the blood type app and it says strawberries are neutral Confused. It's decaf coffee, is this a no no?

I think I have tried every diet going. Not only have I confused myself but my body. I mean surely on that diet I would lose weight?

ppeatfruit · 17/01/2012 09:18

Yeah actually coffee esp decaff. and strawbs are fine for A types but all that protein is a no no especially every day!

Why don't you give you AND your body a break by doing the blood type way of eating with the Hay diet and Paul Mckenna ? I lost 3 stone doing exactly that and I'm maintaining now. I also have NO health probs. and it's not my genes!!

alfiemama · 17/01/2012 09:56

I would do ppea. However as I have to stay away from gluten and Wheat due to the fibro pain, I thought low carb would be my best option.

I thought they recommend low carb now for health?

I bought the pig2twig book last night, so having a good read of that.

ppeatfruit · 17/01/2012 13:03

I don't eat wheat at all, are you coeliac? It depends on yr blood type and the type of carbs that you eat and HOW you eat them that's why the Hay diet is brilliant 'cos it's when you MIX carbs and protein like burgers or cheese sandwiches etc. that gives you the fibromyalgia and makes you fat IME and O .

On the Hay diet you DON'T mix them. So e.g. I'd have porridge or muesli without fruit or cow's milk I'd put rice milk or soya milk in it (I usually make it with water and it's still creamy).
